Sound System Install Questions
I am looking for some advice from anyone who has put an amp in a 2000 Blazer. I haven't tried putting the amp in yet but before I get started I want some ideas on what I'm up against. Mainly I'm looking for help in where to run the wires. Is there an existing hole through the firewall that I will be able to run the power wire through? I really, really don't want to drill any new holes. Will the carpet stay down after I pick it up to run the wires through or suggest gluing it back down, etc.? What will have to be removed to get the wires to the cargo area? I'll be replacing the door speakers as well. How hard is it to get the door panels off to change out the speakers? Any suggestions or tricks on how to make it easier? The amp is a Directed Xtreme 800 watt mono pushing a Punch P3 DVC 2 ohm in a ported box. I have a 4 gauge wiring kit. I'll be putting Kicker DS650's in the doors. They say they have a 1-13/16" top mounting depth and from my extensive research they should fit. The head unit I'm putting in is a Pioneer P6000UB.

Yes, there is a hole in the passenger side of the firewall It's where the antenna wire goes through so you can just follow that down and you'll find it. As far as running them to the back, the thin plastic trim panel along the edges of the carpet will snap off and you can run the wires through that channel. There are some plastic tabs inside that you may need to cut off to get it to the wires to fit properly but it's not hard. I have a 4ga wire and an 8ga wire running down the passenger side and three coax/RCA cables running down the drivers side and I haven't ever had any problems.
The door panels will come off fairly easily too. There are 3 screws in each of the front panels and 2 screws (I think) in each of the rear panels. The stock speakers have a proprietary connector on them but when I replaced mine, I just cut the connector off and attached the wires straight to the new speakers.
Nothing's too difficult and if you already understand the basics (like you seem to) it's failry straightforward.
