97 Blazer - 100k and still runnin strong!!

Hi all, the only speaker that is working is the drivers door speaker. Sometimes the others will work after hitting a bump. Blazers love bumps!!! :O)

Question is ... do the speaker wires run strait to the speakers after the factory plug or are there other connections that I should check. I just installed a new stereo and I still have the same problem. :O(

After the wiring harness, they should run directly to the speakers. Start tearing your panels off and checking them. I get the 'ol soldering iron out and make a REAL connection! Come to think of it, one of my speakers ain't working either, one of the rears...

 

you prob have loose connection in one wire, make a dead short. Run all new wiring. Pretty easy to do. have done it three times in my 97. once with 16 ga, once with 14 and now have 10 all the way around

and BTW, I have 179000 on mine and still running strong.

Honestly, I would try "popping" the speakers first. You can do this by taking a set of speaker wires and touching them to the ends of a 9V drill battery. Just put the positive speaker wire of one speaker on the positive end of the battery and the negative speaker wire onto the negative end of the battery. If you don't hear anything, there is a good chance that those speakers are blown. You should hear the speakers make a pop and the cone will move out while the wires are touching the battery. Do not use a battery greater than 12V, though. This is the method that is used first at the Best Buy I used to work at.

 

9-volts may damage the coil,
I've always used a AA battery or C battery, any little 1.5v cell works fine.

You need to flip the wires/battery polarity to get a littl e "pop" each time...

 

a 9 volt battery will not damage the speaker in any way.
