testing speakers with a 9v battery?

I saw a thread where someone said you can test if the wiring to the speakers is ok by touching the speaker wires to the pos. and neg. leads of a 9v battery. My question is, how do you know which ones of the little female acceptor slots on the factory harness to touch? Is there a diagram somewhere to reference? Or does anyone know which is which?

Are you trying to test it at the speaker or at the rear of the deck. the 9v is to check to see if a speaker is working. if you disconnect it at the speaker and touch the 9v to the speaker wires then you could screw something up.

Uh, I guess I just want to know if the speaker is working (rather than a faulty output channel on the HU) in the easiest way.

factory or aftermarket deck? really only way isto either cut the wires behind the HU and(need to know which speaker is suspect for wires) or pull the panel off and check the speaker there.

sure you just have to listen a little more closely. you'll hear more of a tick than a pop

factory HU

I can pull off the panel no prob. So I just solder on some wires to the battery terminals and touch them to the connections on the speaker?

just take a length of speaker wire, strip off a section, tape them to the battery, and there you go. ghetto speaker tester!
