What LED's to use?
#11
ya...it would be easier....now that I look, those 60 degree lens aren't exactly widespread.... i ran into the same thing lokoing for special switches for my AUX lights. Only made in china and have to order 3k of them at like $10 a pop......screw that.. Awesome switches though...Those elevator switches that have a nice LED glow ring around a push button center...really nice looking but o well. thanks for the info much appreciated!

If your lookin for a bright accent but don't wanna spend the ching you should look into cold cathode lights. They are brighter than neons but are dirt cheap, custom computer builders use em inside towers cause they put out almost no heat and most places that sell em on the net have kits for cars/trucks cause they're gaining popularity!

You want super flux (or that type) LEDs. You will get a brighter light output by using some with a narrower light angle but you have to use more of them. I get mine from fleabay.

those super flux ones look good. Kinda like these?

they look like the same thing as these from radioshack. Just in a nice spiffy case

Thanks for the suggestion though, im on the wall as far as which ones i'm getting. I'm going to test out the radioshack ones. If i think they're bright enough, then i'll use those since they'll b cheaper (and faster) thanks a lot though you guys!

Haha. I know what you mean. But I'm as little skeptical of how bright those actually are. I wanna see a pic with them showing how far they can actually throw a glow. Whereas I'm going to experiment with the ones from radioshack to see how much they glow. If I like them, I may get more and build a couple holding structures or get a few super flux ones. I just like doing things on my own. I like knowing that I can build it myself. Besides, it gives me something to do while im in shop and bored
and since it's electronics related, im completely allowed to do it[8D]

Truthfully I wouldn't spend the money on those radioshack ones. People have been using the ones I linked to for lots of projects. People use them for dome lights, plate lights, intereior accenting. Here is a quick comparison pic I found.

ok, so i tried out the radioshack ones and man they are bright! The red ones are awesome. i think, since i'm going to be buying a few of these, I will just go ahead with the radioshack ones. They'll be easier for me. Much faster too. I'll make sure to take pics if this thread is still here when i'm done
