sweet i think i figured out what i need to do. I guess now i just gotta hunt down a new alt. I think i can handle the install. Cant be much harder then wiring an amp. Figure what ever size alt i go with will be the size of the fuse i use 200amp alt then ill use a 200amp fuse or 160amp alt 160amp fuse etc.

Like has been said, get the AD244. Much cheaper, easily found, and puts out the high numbers, at idle. Read the s10forum thread on the AD244 upgrade. $50 for used alt, $30 for new belt = $80 HO alt

btw...Odyssey > Optima, and Die Hard Platinum P3 = rebranded Odyssey, so, get a Die Hard P3, get a better battery than an Optima, and save $100

you dont need to fuse the wire for the alt.

For anything putting out over 150 amps it's recommended to use a thicker gauge charging wire and a fuse.

Also, if you get a 165 amp fuse, don't get a 165 amp fuse, go for 175 amp fuse if possible, if not go for 200. This is due to the fact that power can slightly fluctuate and if so if your 165 amp alt puts out a 167 amps for just a millisecond and you only have a 165 amp fuse you will basically end up stalling your Blazer while driving down the road, and nobody wants that.

ya the fuse thing makes sense. ya i started the truck today and cranked the stereo a good bit and the guage was going down to 14 not quite below it, so it doesnt seem to bad. but the lights in my dash prndl, odometer etc were dimming real good though. ill have to take the fluke to it tonight and see how many amps the amp is actually pulling.

i noticed its a little louder now that ive changed out the wiring to it i was only using 8gauge from the old amp i had, it was getting a little hot. and the 40amp fuse kept blowing. i finally put the 4guage in that the amp recommends and a 100amp fuse even though the amp says go 140amp fuse. i asked the guy at a local audio store if they had any 140amp fuses he looked at me like i was crazy then had to go check out what i was running, he was impressed said i need a new box though. i agreed, its in a mtx ported box but not to my specs unless i got lucky but i doubt that. ill try and throw some pics up of it too.

you dont need a fuse. There isnt one on the stock set up so there is no need for one now.

blazinloud thanks for that link price isnt to bad i may try to do that. do u know if u have to get a longer belt or anything with that?

Also i lied about the votage drop its dropping below 12v on my guage in the dash. i dont really leave it playing that loud for more then a few seconds i hear u can hurt ur amp doing it with the voltage drop being so much.

So does anyone else run a fuse when installing a larger alt? guess if the stock system doesnt like nvanzee says dont see the point but im not to sure.
