Default Where is the best place to get switch power from for a new deck?

Continuing in my quest for a great sound system, I now know that I will need to bring in power from something that turns on when the key is turned. I don't know what I should get it from, I have the stuff for it, but I don't know where to get it from. It has to be high voltage right?

I heard that the set up that is in it right now won't turn on the deck and that I will need to run a power wire from something that turns on when you turn the key.

not sure if I understand the question, but the blue rem (remote) line in the factory harness controls whether the deck comes on when the key is switched on

I'll clear it up, In the wiring of the current head unit, there is only constant power, not switched power, the data bus controls the switched power, and i don't want to buy the adapter (~$80) so i need to bring switched power in from another source, (i.e. lights, and other sources that only work when the key is turned). I'm wondering where the best place would be to do that. I'm thinking i'm probably going to get it from the wiring harness from the lights. They are high voltage enough (i believe). Alpine says to bring it in from the fuse box, so i'll look into it. I've heard that the harness does not have switched power in it. Thanks.

How about run a wire to the cig outlet and pirate power from there. Its where I get power for my V1.

if it's like that then I would wire it through the fuse box. I haven't heard of this being necessary for an aftermarket deck but who knows. I will say that my ballasts for my hid kit goes through my fuse box so I'm sure there enough voltage.

Man I just wired my 2005 today and it is not like you are saying. I just took a meter...looked at the wires that seemed to be speaker wires and ignored them. Then I stuck the neg lead on the black socket and sure enough ground. Then out of the 4 wires left it was very easy to see which one had constant power and which one came on with the key. What is so different about your truck?

One was made with chopsticks and the other by a Mariachi band.

if u got the blaze in your sig, then this is simple. buy the wiring harness for it, it will have a 12V constant and a 12V ignition. the ignition wire is what turns on your head unit.
