1978 k5 350 build help/suggestions. Thanks
I can't thank you enough in advance.
So, I just came into possession of a 1978 k5 blazer with a 350. Other than a new carb and radiator, everything is original.
I'm basically going to make this thing a "ride around town" type of blazer. I don't need tons of power because I won't be rock crawling this thing. The engine is solid and holds decent compression. At a minimum, I'm going to have the engine builder swap out the cam for a bit more low end torque. In addition, I'm dropping in headers too.
With that said, is it worth swapping....
1. Heads? I've read the stock heads are not horrible.
2. Intake manifold? Supposedly it's aluminum. I'll double check today, but it looks cast iron.
3. Bore it out .30? .40? .60? over.
Any help with would be greatly appreciated. I know many have been in this situation, and I want to do what will be a "bang for your buck" type upgrades.

The most important thing to remember about engine building is that everything has to work together. A longer duration cam won't work well with low compression pistons. And if you raise the compression and upgrade the cam, you'll want better flowing heads. Then you need to do something with the exhaust because what gets in needs to get out. Probably your best bet would be to buy one of the performance packages available from manufacturers like Edelbrock, and follow their recommendations for heads, pistons, etc.

Thoughts on the Edelbrock E street package? It's pretty much complete.

I think that's a great way to go. That way, you know all the parts are matched and work well together. And Edelbrock makes good stuff.
