Well, just did the CS144 alternator swap. Got a 140 amper off a 96 Chevy Express Van with a 5.7l. since the bracketry is identical, it was a bolt on swap, hardware wise. I did have to get a 1 inch longer belt, a 960K6 instead of the stock 950K6. And I had to swap out the factory alternator plug, for the older "dog leg" style plug. Really simple, the wiring from my 2001, to the older connector, was exactly reversed. Just had to make sure I spliced it the correct way. Its putting out 100 amps at idle now, instead of 50! The CS130D is junk.

The reason I did it, was because I have a Taurus dual speed electric fan to install, and get rid of the annoying clutch fan!!! I needed more power to run it correctly. I know, I know, some people say that the E fan is not a big deal of an upgrade, but I beg to differ. I HATE the sound of the clutch fan. And in the winter, it will heat up faster!!

Did you repin the plug or just splice it into your harness?

Actually, I just grabbed the correct alternator plug at the junkyard this morning. I got one with two wires, like my old plug did. The plugs are labeled, so I matched up pins "F" to "F" and "L" to "L".

Mine had the oval plug, and the new alternator needed the old L-shaped plug.

So just a repin then got it. I've never done that, how difficult was it to get the wires out of the plug to match them up?

No, not a "repin" but a "replug"

To me, repin means moving the pins around to different spots in the connector. I didn't do that, I soldered a new plug onto the wires left by the old plug. The wires were different colors, but as I said, they were labeled!

Ahhhhh OK. It sounded like you meant you moved the pins to a new plug (basically same as you said a repin was to you) I just misunderstood.
