Default 5x10 utility trailer in the making

Hey guys, I bought a ton of steel tubing a while ago and the guy basically threw a trailer frame in for free. I've made a little progress, but not much. What I'm stuck on is the axle and spring set up. It has an axle, spindles, rims and tires. I bought two leaf springs and the hangers. Here's a picture of the "axle". It's solid steel, not hollow obviously.

How do I mount this to the springs? (with ubolts obviously, but I mean how do I place the axle on the springs?) Is this even an axle? Is it useable? It's not like I need a trailer that can support a really heavy load.. It'd be nice to be able to load 5,000 lbs at the most. And yes, I may be in over my head haha

any pictures or anything will help.
Please answer sooner than later! an answer right now would be best since I'm wanting to get something done on it right now..

I think you'd be lucky if that's a 1000 lb axle. I wouldn't use it for any trailer that'll see the highway personally. Is it welded to the frame directly right now?

It's meant to mount with the jog pointing upwards to give a lower trailer height. You could put the springs on top or below the axle, it doesn't really matter.

Right now it's welded to the frame, only because the guy I bought it from did that quickly so I could tow it home. If you figure it's that weak of an axle, I'm going to look for a better one on kijiji. The problem is that I'm cheap and don't want to spend a lot of money on this thing.. haha, so hopefully I can find a used axle for cheap.

See if princess auto has an axle that will work with your wheels.
