Bear's 95 jimmy

2 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone, I Got my jimmy over a year ago for $600 and have put a lot into it so I figured I should start my build.

-So far I have put on new tires, 235 75 r15 wrangler territories.
-New off road lights, IPF 900 series (older ones)
-Painted over the silver on the front and sides and rims.
-Put a 12" kicker sub and a 300 watt kicker amp.
-Replaced muffler with a Glasspack.

And that's pretty much all the things I added to it. ( Not counting all the parts to fix it and get it running).

-I plan on a 2" body lift.
-2.5" RC suspension lift or the 6" if it comes out later this summer and have the cash.
-bigger tires maybe 31 or 33 depending on the lift I get.
-Cb Radio (Already got one just waiting for shipping)
-Fix rust spots and bedline the sides.
-Bush guard
-The posilock thing rex made. ( I have gone through 3 actuators...)
-Another 4x4 rear end or zr2 with G80( G80 broke with previous owner)
-Fix transfercase seals.

That's is all I can think of right now but i'm sure I will think of more.

Anyways this is a pic of when I got it.

Well today my Cb finally came in so I put it on. I got a cobra 29 classic and a 4' firesik antenna.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1372912334

I have it up on the dash because its kinda big and there was not much room anywhere else for it.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1372912334

They sent me the wrong type of mount... They gave me a mount with the lug on it witch would not work for the coax cable so I had to go and buy the right one and then I could put the antenna on.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1372912334

Its wired into my fuse box for now untill I get a longer cable to hook it up to the battery. The Cb works pretty good and I might get a PA speaker to go with it.

I mounted my 29 just above the center counsel under the dash.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1372952752
The only mod I had to do was cut out a bit if the black trim/kick panel to make clearance for the back of the cb.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1372952752
I like the location. It's down out of the way and it keeps all of the wires hidden and out of the way.

bear159 07-04-2013 06:28 PM

Yeah that's a good spot, I don't mind the wires being up on the dash so I will probably just leave it there.

bear159 07-06-2013 02:45 PM

Well I won't be adding anything to my truck for a bit now... I took it out for a drive today and when I came back I noticed a crack about 1 inch long on the top of the rad, so its leaking coolant and I have to go fix that now...

ohsofly 07-06-2013 09:21 PM

Nice nostalgic looking radio there. I got the Uniden Bearcat 880 for my work truck, its colorful and flashy and has digital noise reduction and auto scan channels. Nice unit.

Also, you can pop into a CB shop and the person there can "tune" your radio for better reception. To do this they trim off some legnth on that antenna for better reception. Plus then you can pull into that garage.

bear159 07-07-2013 08:06 PM

The reception is pretty good right now and the antenna I got has a tunable tip, I might end up going to a Cb shop to let them tune it but first I have to get a new radiator.

rexmburns 07-07-2013 08:25 PM

Is your leak in the plastic end cap of the rad right near the inlet tube?

bear159 07-07-2013 08:52 PM

1 Attachment(s)
This is a pic of the crack its about an inch long, its kinda hard to see but its right above the oil line that goes in the radiator on the left side.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1373248362

rexmburns 07-07-2013 09:17 PM

If its the plastic end ap you can replace that rather than the whole rad for about $35. I did it on mine about two yrs ago and have never had an issue with it.

bear159 07-10-2013 10:24 PM

Well I decided I might as well just get a new radiator, I got my old one out with no problems other than one transmission line.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1373513085

I also got a new lower fan shroud because my old one was broke and in the winter the fan would hit it and make a really annoying noise, as I was putting my new one in I managed to break the radiator baffle... Now I have to wait untill friday to get the new one.

As I wait for the part I am going to be fixing all the rust spots, I will have pics up tomorrow.

I sanded down all the rust spots on my fenders and painted them.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1373576437
Here is a spot on the rear fender that was really annoying me.(Before I sanded it)

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1373576437
Its not the best paint job but its better than staring at rust.

95BlackGA 07-12-2013 12:25 PM

I really like the tread pattern on those tires.

bear159 07-12-2013 03:58 PM

Yeah I like them to, I got them for $600 and there winter rated too.

bear159 07-12-2013 11:06 PM

So I got my new radiator in today.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1373688371

Looks much better then the old one, I hope this one lasts as long as the other one.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1373688371
And here is everything back together, I took it for a quick drive and noticed the top transmission cooler line was leaking so I made sure it was tight and I hope nothing else leaks.

I went to a scrap yard today and got this bush guard, I know they don't make one for 95's so I will try to make some mounts for this one to fit. I just don't know what to do with the mounts that go in the grille. For $75 its not that bad.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1373736986
I just put my old lights on it for fun but If I get it on I might paint it black to match my jimmy, not sure yet.

slcblazer 07-13-2013 03:30 PM

Looking good

bear159 07-14-2013 02:51 PM

Thanks, your blazer looks very nice also.

Well today I started my jimmy and I heard a loud noise from under the hood, so I got the hood up and I used a stethoscope to listen around and it sounds like the noise is coming from the ac compressor... It makes a very loud grinding noise and a squeal, I though it was the water pump at first but it sounds like its coming from the compressor so I guess I will have to replace that. Or remove it an get a smaller belt if that's possible on a jimmy because my a/c has never worked anyways.

Today I got a led light to replace my old dome light.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374003695

It came with some extra adapters but I only needed the one that looked like the old light.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374003695

Here is the led where the old light was.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374003695

And here is it turned on. Its way brighter then the old light and it should come in handy at night.

Today I worked on my brush guard a bit and sprayed some bed liner on the lower sides of the truck and the fenders.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374449912

Here is a close up on the fenders, It covers up the scratches and there I sanded down the rust so i'm happy with it.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374449912

I hope I will get the brush guard on by this week all I have to do now is make the mounts.

bear159 07-25-2013 09:37 PM

I have done a bit more work on the mounts for the brush guard but its not done yet...

Anyways with all the black on my truck my rusty frame stood out, so I got some rust converter and paint/primer.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374806228

So here is the frame right now

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374806228

I used a bit of sand paper and a wire brush to remove the loose rust and then I sprayed the frame with some rust converter.

Tomorrow I will put some more on and then prime/paint it.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374806228

This is before the rust converter, more pics will be up tomorrow.

Alright here are the rest of the pics of the frame.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374992447

This is after the rust converter.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374992447

Putting primer on

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374992447

And here is it painted.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374992447

It looks much better with out the rust, I will undercoat it soon too.

bear159 07-28-2013 01:36 AM

I also got my bush guard on. The bush guard was off a jeep so it was not an exact fit and I had to make the mounts.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374993418

Here I am lining it up. If it does not look even its because the metal holding the tow hook is bent down on one side. Also the bush guard is dented, not bad but at least its on.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374993418

The only way to tell if its level is to look at it where the hood is, it looks about a half inch lower on the drivers side but its not that bad.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374993418

The top mounts.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374993418

Bottom mounts, I also added another piece of metal on the top just for extra strength.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1374993418

Now the light guard part on this side is slightly bent up so again it looks uneven...
But for $75 its not that bad, I like it and its on there good.

Not sure what i'm doing next but i'm sure I will think of something.

bear159 07-29-2013 12:51 AM

Today I got some lights hooked up to my bush guard. I used two if my old lights that I used to have on my roof, they are 55 watt lights.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375077101

I was going to put them on the outside holes but I think it looks better with them close together.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375077101

I ran out of the plastic to put around the wires so I will have to get more tomorrow to finish covering it.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375077101

I decided to put the switch down in that spot for a few reasons...
First is I did a terrible job with my other switches so I wanted these where I don't have to see them. Plus I don't mind it being there out of the way.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375077101

Here is them wired and on, they are much brighter at night.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375077101

And here is all my lights on.

So far I like the light setup and I might add two on the back but i'm not sure yet.

This morning my light guards came in!
I got them on and they look great.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375122607

Here is a close up.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375122607

I also am looking for every little piece of rust I can find and sanding it down/painting it.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375122607

On all the the doors there is a small strip of rust...

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375122607

Here is it painted.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375122607

I also noticed bubbles in the paint near the rear door so I grabbed some of the peeling paint and...

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375122607

A lot of paint came off...

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375122607

So I sanded it all down and put some flat black rust paint on. I will put matching paint on later this week.

Today I did some more painting and touch ups.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375235814

Painted the bush guard mounts.
The paint was chipped and peeling off of all the steps under the doors.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375235814

Before

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375235814

And after.
I used bedliner on them so there more durable and last a lot longer.

I also drilled some holes in the roof rack so I can mount two more lights on the back, they will be my reverse lights for when i'm offroading. That's all for today.

Sparky8542 07-30-2013 10:20 PM

It's looking good man, I'm looking forward to the progress

bear159 07-30-2013 10:33 PM

Thanks! I hope to have the rear facing lights on this week.

I got my lights on and wired today.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375572426

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375572426

They are a lot brighter at night but they still look good.

I will slowly start saving up for a lift kit, might take a while...
A body lift with probably be first then maybe a rc lift, depends on how much I save up.

For now I will be removing rust and doing more painting.

DiffBuster 08-03-2013 11:16 PM

Today I got some wire protector on and found a spot for the switch.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375654835

Looks better now.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375654835

Put more of the wire protector on under the hood.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375654835

I also found this 10 awg wire under the hood, probably something the previous owner had . Just have to find out where it goes to...

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375654835

Here is where I put the switch, its the green one.

DiffBuster 08-05-2013 10:23 AM

Great idea for switch placement.

bear159 08-05-2013 01:10 PM

Thanks, I wanted them out of the way but still easy to get at so I though that was a good place.

I have seen a few people on here with marker lights on the top luggage rack, I liked the look of them so I put some on today.
I have them so they only come on when my park or night lights are on.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375923324

They are 12" amber led strips that you can cut to size, I used the full 12" on both.
They come with a double sided tape from 3M but I put two zip ties on just in case, they are on good and don't move at all.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375923324

Here are them on during the day, I like the look of them.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1375923324

And at night, they look more orange in person.

Sparky8542 08-07-2013 08:53 PM

It's looking good man, yeah I wouldn't have trusted that double sided tape either lol

bear159 08-08-2013 10:24 AM

Thanks! And yeah the last thing I want is them falling off on the highway, I checked them this morning and there still on good.

So for the past week I have been looking for rust and sanding/painting it.

Then I noticed that there was some oil on the ground, I looked for the source and it seems to be from my rear shock...

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1376684888

I have been looking around for shocks and I think I will get the rancho rs5000.

Then I wen't to go check my fluids and saw that the battery looked like it was sitting low.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1376684888

Turns out a bolt is missing on the battery tray... I used another bolt I had and it seems pretty good now.

I will be fixing up more rust spots and be getting shocks soon.

newguy 08-16-2013 03:38 PM

good job on the maintainence before going nuts with the mods

Today I painted the receiver.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1377042293

It was starting to rust so I thought it was about time it should be painted.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1377042293

I also got some rancho rs5000's for the rear coming this week, I will replace the front shocks later.
