Cool Black Betty

I just been posting away here and realized i haven't introduced myself!

Where to begin, i searched 3 months for my Blazer, finally found it 6 years ago, and it took them 3 weeks to find a bank that would approve me. Some bank in Edmonton of all places. I loved it from day one, i do my regular maintenance on her, but last 2 years I have been slacking and traveling instead.

In 6 years i put on about 40,000 km (Bought the truck when it had 65,000 km, and now shes at 105,000 km)

This past Winnipeg Winter, she wouldn't start for me twice, needed a boost. Other than that she's always been reliable. She's definitely speaking to me NOW! tires, brakes, and now a power steering leak ( Power Steering pressure hose i was told will fix it).

I look forward to sharing my Blazer adventures with everyone as I already have with my Tire experience.

The goal is to keep her ... daily driver but maybe turn a few heads along the way. 3 inch lift kit, and push bar i like to have on it some day, and nothing would make me prouder that seeing her pull a boat behind her.

it has started, for 5 years Black Betty has been great. She never complained but mine you i detailed her once a month and washed her weekly. But now after 2 years of neglect she is acting out, and is talking to me...

First she was eating u joints every 6 months. found out the drive shaft was the cause (FIXED).

Then she ate 3 three thermostats that have seized in 5 years (Still on going) .

This past winter the occasional completely flat tire only on the passenger side. (Bought a new set of tires)

Brakes are down to 1/32 in the front, I have bought my brake pads and rotors for installation this sunday morning.

And last night the service 4WD light pops on then off.

Blazer is talking to me, just wish she gave me some time to exhale inbetween these issues.

Cool Black Betty Brake Job

I got all the parts needed:

1. pads and rotors
2. fog light bulbs (one burnt out)
3. door pins

Bought some JD, invited two friends over and had some BBQ!

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you have the start of a build thread here. You might want to ask a mod to move it from the New Members welcome section to the Builds section.

since this last post, I have suffered all of last winter until this December without heat... so I did another rad flush but this time flushed the core as well. I tried this garage a block away, came recommended from a buddy. He replaced my rad cap apparently it wasn't getting the right kind of pressure from it?! $220 later Blazer has never had such awesome heat!

However now, I have a new problem.... since owning this Blazer she always kinda made a grinding noise when turning in the tight parking lots from the front drivers wheel. I ignored it thinking must be the mud flap or something lol... well i now know this was my bearings/bushing talking to me... because, its getting louder and after a convo with a fellow Blazer owner... sounds like i need wheel hubs. Prices so far i have been told are $60 for the cheap ones and $400 for the good ones.

dont use the cheep bearings , they dont last

shop around , you should be able to find them cheaper than $400
I bought mine at Rock Auto and did both sides at the same time
Make sure to torque the drive axle nut when installing the new bearing

Well I noticed low fuel economy lately. ..like 20 km for a full tank of gas!!!
Red lights rear end spinning more than usual...fish tailing even... and after I park it smells emmiting from the truck. Talk to buddy from Fountain Tire..tells me that I'm wrecking my tires and brakes not to mention she's gonna completely seize one of these days.... so I ended to call to get Black Betty towed and part one of my list of repairs cost me $970.

Bearings, power steering flushed etc... some engine wash/decreasing...
