Default Engine removal questions

hello everyone, i am fairly new to blazer forum. I got my 1999 blazer about a year ago. i have began to remove the engine for a rebuild. so far all i have had time for is removing air filtering system, altenator, refigerant pump. i just would like to know what you guys would do next, seeing that spring break is coming up i will have a lot of time on my hands. Any other suggestions in the area of removing the engine are welcome.(im very new to all of this, i am a 17 teen year old going to high school, and would like to learn a whole lot more about the engine, thanks everyone.)

There are alot of threads that tell you how to do it. Just do a search.

Next would be your transmission,(top two bolt are a pain), then your starter. After you get the starter out, there are bolts that hold the flywheel to the troque converter inside the starter hole, that is the only way to get to them. Then fuel lines, motor mounts, like three or four grounds. One on the back of the pass. side head, one on the block on the pass down by the balancer. Dont forget about the exaust it is easier to take them off at the collectors lots of wd40 will help on those. The oil cooler lines are also hooked to the block, aswell as the transmission lines. After all this pick slowly just incase you forgot something. Hope this helps.

Make your life easier and remove the front clip

Also , I never take the transmission out unless I have to. Just unbolt the TC from the flex plate and take out the bellhousing bolts. After that just block the tranny up with somthing, ie wood, rachet strap under the pan , whatever , just somthing to keep it from hitting the ground when you go to pull the engine. Some say not to pull the fenders on these trucks , and it does take some extra time , but its worth it in the long run. Ive done about 6 engines in S10s (4.3's and V8's ) and theres no way I would do it without takeing the front clip off

What kind of transmision are you taking off that you had to get the TC bolts out throught the starter hole? I always take the inspection cover off the bottom of the trans and then take them out. Inspection cover has to come off anyway......

Bout every 4L60E i have ever done 96 s10 Blazer 97 Silverado. Thats two of them, but my 95 Silverado had a inspection cover. I think in 96 GM went to a solid bellhousing cause there is no inspection cover.

i thought it was in '96 when they went to the one piece design?

mind you, i've only had to pull out one trans on a 2nd gen so far (knocks on wood), and it wasn't even in my truck (thank God!).

I changed the oil in my 98 Z71 friday and it had a dust cover too. So my 97 and 98 Z71 had inspection covers. Might have somthing to do with the 4wd versions , I dunno. Ive never seen the 1 piece versions till new body style in the fullsize.
