Enter The Darkness
Ok, it's time for me to start adding my updates. Will most likely be kind of slow at first, as my budget is slim, but we will see how it goes.

Got some average speakers for the back doors. Kenwood 180w 6 1/2 3-way http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...1-01202812.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...1-01203349.jpg (I'll add pics of the install if you want to see, although it's pretty straight foward) I'll keep y'all updated. Glad to finally be adding to the fun. :icon_speaker1: |

First step to my system
Little update, finally going to start working on the sound system. Still going to be a little slow going, but I'll post up as I get each peice.
Got these on a clearance sale for $30 a peice. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0357.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0359.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0360.jpg |
Amp and Box arrive!
Not the best out there, but should suit my purpose.
Amp: Dual XPE2700 400W Max, 2-Channel MOSFET XPE Series http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0365.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0366.jpg Box:Absolute USA MDHF12 12-Inch Dual Universal Sealed Enclosure http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0370.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0379.jpg I'll add more when I start up the wiring, etc....and when my new head unit/front door speakers arrive. Bout time I get some decent sound in this thing. :icon_speaker1: |
Lookin' good. Will you be amplifying your door speakers too?

*edit* Here's the wiring for the subs, used the suggested wiring setup from Crutchfield's website. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0380.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0383.jpg And the subs in the box! http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0386.jpg |
Radio is finally here
My new head unit/front door speakers finally arrived.
http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0389.jpg The stereo: http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0388.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0393.jpg The speakers: http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/HPIM0391.jpg Gonna get all the wiring done inside, and then out to the 20 degree weather for the install. Sorry, due to afore mentioned temps, won't be taking pics of actual install. But, most of us here have/can install new head units, so pics can be imagined. :icon_wink: |
Ok, so a couple of hours(sat in truck and played with my new toy:cool:) and some frozen toes later, head unit is in. Have my remote/rca wires hooked up as well. Took me forever to find a way to run those. Maybe I just missed the obvious path, but everything in the dash seemed compartmentalized. Ended up coming out the ashtray underneath the dash. Will do my door speakers and the amp/subs tomorrow when it's light out.(depending on finding that darn hole in the firewall, still haven't found it yet!) Also have to do the Big 3 and install my new battery terminal as well.
As I said no pics of actual install, but here's the finished product. Might try to get better pics in the morning when it's light out. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...zer/IMG109.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p...zer/IMG108.jpg |
You have to pull back the carpet on the passenger side and it's very plain to see the grommet. You can't see it very well from the engine compartment unless you go under the truck.

I've read that on here before, and did have the carpet pulled up before, maybe again I'm missing the obvious. :icon_shrug: Thanks for the tip though. |
Pull it back and take a picture, I'll highlight the area you need to look.

Thanks for the offer, but it's probably going to be a while before I mess with the truck again. After foolishly spending a few hours out in the 20 degree weather installing the head unit and front door speakers(among messing with a few other things) I have now been sick for the last couple of days. I'll get the pic up as soon as I can get a chance to get out there again. |
That stinks. If I get a chance since it's somewhat nice out here right now I'll see about taking one for ya.

Well, after spending the last few days recovering from the last round of working on the Blazer in the cold, I spent a little time out there today. Couldn't/didn't want to spend too much time out there as it is still cold, and the snow was supposed to be starting soon.(started about an hour ago). But, I did get my +battery post changed over and ready for my power wire.
Sometimes I hate GM and their affinity for side posts! Should have been an easy process, yet for some odd reason my extended post that I bought to replace the stock, wouldn't reach the battery through the rubber casing around the post. Ended up shaving the outside(away from battery) rubber off so the new post would fit properly. I'll snap some pics later when the snow stops, and add em to this post. I also ran the ground wire for the amp, the rca's, and the remote wire. And I measured how much speaker wire I was going to need to get from amp to box based on where I am going to put it all. That's it for today. Will work on some more when it's not snowing. On vacation till next Thursday, so still have plenty of time to mess around. |
