The Incredible Hulk.
ok, so i've finally gotten around to starting a build thread! (i know, it seems like i've been saying i was gonna start one for awhile now.)
so with today being a super nice day around my parts, and me having out my tools (doing coils & plugs on a neighbours Tribute), i figured it was about time i did some under coating, rocker guard treatment, and i finally took the whole 7 minutes to install my HID kit (thanks Pat, aka oktain :)) now i know some of you (probably alot actually) are wondering about the build title.........i figured it was well suited to my truck, and here's why.......................it's a little Blazer (like Bruce Banner), but when you piss it off (or the driver) it'll show ya you don't wanna mess with it (or the driver). and it's never let me down when i've called upon it. be it pulling someone/thing out of a spot, trudging through the onslaught of a crapy Winters storm in the middle of the night, or simply playing where i shouldn't be. it was either that, or i call this build thread "The Money Pit"........and the wife sure as hell didn't want me jinxing the truck now! :D so here a few pic's of what i've done today. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3422.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3423.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3424.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3425.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3426.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3427.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3428.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3429.jpg the last pic is of the HID kit (passenger side) compared to the 65W APC Ultra White (simulated) HID bulbs i had in there before (drivers side). it may not seem like a big difference in the pic, but i sure can tell the difference in person. i'm gonna have to go out tonight and get a pic to compare them to the APC bulbs i had in there. i've also put my colours on it (BF.com), and my "team recovery" on the back window. installed my lights for the trailer hitch, and the "bling" bars (for my daughter), but all that was done awhile ago. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3401.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM2751.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM2608.jpg while i have a pretty good list of mods all played out in my mind, the lack of work over the last 1 1/2 years has kinda put a few of them on the back burner (moderate lift, and a couple of custom one-off pieces), none the less, i hope to tackle a few soon. |
Looking good........how are you liking the HIDs?

i went out a little while ago (to compare them to the APC's i had in there before), snap a few pic's & pick up a XL double chesse pizza (man i hate when you get those cravings! :)). but i'm a little pissed now that i have them in the truck, for a couple of reasons................. first, i thought i had solved the issue with my HL's being outta alignment, when i put in my APC bulbs, but these HID's are only hitting about 25 yards in front of the truck-right in the same spot as my factory fog lights! so........now i need to bring my socket to adjust them tomorrow. hopefully it'll still be dark enough when i leave for work in the morning. second, while i was out and noticed that the lights weren't hitting far enough away, i flicked on my HB's.............holy s**t! they're freakin' pale yellow (they were actually "white" compared to the factory bulbs!). so now i need to get me a kit for the HB as well. probably get a pair for the factory fog's too. great, more money! :icon_doh: anyways...........here's a few pic's, the APC's.................. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM2742.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM2743.jpg the HIDextra system........... http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3431.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3432.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3433.jpg sorry for the fuzzyness of a few of those pic's, but my POS-i mean P & S-needs serviced (it gets funny when taking low-light pic's lately). |
Yeah...............after I did my HID's I wondered why I didn't do them sooner.
|
Glad those HID's worked out... I'm trying to decide if I should bother keeping the HID's in the Sierra or not... should know by the end of the week after some thought lmao. I'll let you know.
|
thanks Pat, i'll be waiting. how are you enjoying Sadie?
someone was asking about balast placement on these trucks, figured i'd throw up a pic or two for them (probably the same spot everyone else put them anyways). http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...HPIM3434-1.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...HPIM3435-1.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...HPIM3436-1.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3437.jpg |
Nice build so far! Makes me want to spend the $317 for 3 HID kits.
|
so......i'd like to take this opportunity to thank Pat (oktain) for his generous contribution to my project...............he sold me his other HID kit on Thursday (which arrived just after lunch today Pat-talk about express delivery!).
so here's a few pic's, gonna go out later when it gets dark, check the alignment on them, snap a few more of HIGH & LOW to compare to those APC's i had in there. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3485.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3486.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3487.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3488.jpg so thanks again Pat, maybe we'll do coffee again when you travel down this way. hope you managed to get outta town before the Friday night rush started. |
And maybe next time you'll stop by my place since its ON THE WAY and bring me a coffee!
Sorry...I just had one. I'm a little hyper. Looks good tho! keep it up! |

Sorry...I just had one. I'm a little hyper. Looks good tho! keep it up! we met up @ the Brass Pro shop in Vaughn Mills mall (since he was doing his Father's Day shopping while in town), then hit the Tim's across from Canada's Wonderland. but maybe you'll come for a coffee after a play day? my youngest brother (with that Jimmy) is trying to get a few guys together. apparently he has a few friends that are "mud virgins" anyways, i went out to check the alignment of the lights, and i've got to say, the 9005 bulbs definitely sit differently in the 9006 spot (my LB's were hitting where the HB's should've been!). these lights were actually a bit of a pain tonight-they must have attracted every freakin' bug for 10 miles while i was adjusting them. definitely some weird-ass bugs out there tonight! the LB's,http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3491.jpg the HB's, http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3492.jpg |
Lookin good, be careful with the HID's in the highbeams... they take a bit to warm up (obviously :P) so flippin' at people wont be near as fun because they won't be bright.. but if you use your high's for long periods of time I'm sure you'll light up the skys!
|
yeah there's more than one of us to have a lil part of Pats blazer in all of us Canadians lol... I have his CAI, K&N & heat shield lol
nice going on the HID's btw & the high beam switch could prove interesting seeing as we have DRL personally I've already got my 5000K HID's from HIDxtra for the high beams but I'm going to route the DRL's to the next to useless foglights I have & then install the HID's in the high beams with a switch ala relay so I can have the quad beam or reg high beam (no low beam).... when I figure it all out lol That'll brighten up the night highway hauling the boat back from Nutamuk or Otter Falls ;) & yes, out in the boonies or even in the city, HID's attract anything with wings, so much so they'll cover the lens lol (HID's are supposed to simulate sunlight, hence the midnight bugs freaking out) |

every time i went to check the HB's (to see how their alignment was), i had to flick back to the LB's 'cause there was another car coming towards me. what the hell was everybody driving around here @ 11:40 last night? didn't they know i was out working on my alignment? :) too bad there wasn't a way to "warm up" the system before switching them on. ah well, small price to pay for my own personal spots of daylight. on another mod note...........i started doing something tonight, but smoked two bits trying to do it..................so i'm not gonna post up any results 'til i can get it finished-hopefully tomorrow after work. trust me, when you see the mangled mess i made.........................:icon_emm: |
Door hinges?
Glad things worked out with the HID's... When I told my dad not to ship them on Friday he had already sent them out... that's why you got them Monday. And as far as Bass Pro goes... I still laugh at all the looks we got stuffing the charcoal BBQ/smoker and fish finder in the back of the Bell van lmao. |
Haha I would definitely laugh, then see Chris walk around the corner of it and start crying at the thought of knowing who it is lol

tell you what, when you come to pick-up the oil lines, i won't invite Pat to meet with us, ok? :icon_razz:

no..............but i do have to do that "custom" bushing work on that one door. (gotta get that taken care of real soon) |
ok, i'm now ready to show you the butcher job that i tried to do last Saturday-not that it was totally my fault, the hole saw was kinda toast already. :icon_shrug:
http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3505.jpg that's the end result of a wornout hole saw, and then figuring you can finish it off with a wood one. i know, not the smartest thing to try, but when everything is closed, and you've got nothing to lose............... so tonight i bought a new (freakin' expensive!) hole saw................. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3519.jpg just in case anyone else is tempted to mount something in the bumper, be for warned, that rebar is a bitch.................notice where my "perfectly aligned in the middle" placement caused me such headache (see the 2nd pic). http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3520.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3521.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3522.jpg i've gotten fed up over the last decade (plus) of the trailer hook-ups corroding every few Winters, so bought a Hopkins Endurance plug, it looks like your outdoor water-proof electrical box. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3527.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3528.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3529.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_HPIM3533.jpg the plug is warrantied for 3 years, so we'll see how well it stands up. looked well constructed inside, so hopefully i won't have to worry about it for awhile. and that's part of the reason why i put it in the bumper, 'cause 3 weeks after i put it beside the hitch (like i have on all of my trucks, except for my p/u) it got smashed on some snow (ice?). so.......no more of that happening. although, i'm guessing some ass-hat is probably gonna rear-end me now. :icon_doh: maybe i should put my "Winter Import Bumper" back on...........just in case. :icon_shrug: |
Colour match the import bumper though... it'd look better IMO.
Nice mod, it actually looks like it may belong there. NOW FIX YOUR DOOR PIN I'm trying to find the time to get down to Wonderland with the GF, I'll let you and Brad know if I end up heading down... we'll go meet at the Busy-Ass Tim's again. Coffee's on Brad for being a cry-baby about it though. |

I'm assuming you subscribed to your own thread so I thought this would be a good place to put this.
Thinking back to our convo about clear corners I found these: http://cgi.ebay.ca/2000-2004-S10-Bla...item3a55e7160a If you decide not to bother with the brazilian tails... |

If you decide not to bother with the brazilian tails... but i was thinking after i found them, i'm kinda liking the amber signals front & back. if only it wasn't raining all weekend, i actually wanted to wire them up. :icon_shrug:

Get to put a few more faces to the names! i was hoping we could actually do a day trip in the bush somewhere with a few members, when he comes down next time. i know he was planing to go to Wonderland with the GF, maybe he could make it a weekend trip. :icon_shrug: we'll definately have to set something up. i've come across some possible new hoops for the truck. take a look here, let me know what ya think. |
I'm liking the rims.. and I'm not putting my truck in the bush for a long time lmfao.... that being said, if that's the plan then the GF and I will either rid in the hulk... or Brad's ZR2. The Sierra will just sit back and look pretty, no swamps or branches for her. Camp roads yes... well I've made my point clear enough :p

and she'll be doing a good job of it. thanks for the props on the wheels. i think i'll need to get tuner nuts for them-i almost couldn't get an impact socket in there to put them on. maybe i'll bug my brother to borrow his tuner nuts this weekend, since his truck still isn't together. just to do a quick road test on the wheels, make sure they're running true. the Honda's have a 120mm bolt pattern, compared to our 120.65 (4.75"). but really, .65mm is only 0.0255", so i don't think there is gonna be any issue. still, i'd like to verify before i get them. |
A Bush rip sounds good!
As for the rims! They look good! Need a better pic tho! shined up and full view! We should try and get Sisk out here too! Tempt him with beer :icon_shrug: |
Woah! Too much excitement, Brad. lol
|
Your just jealous you can't come! lol
I am excited. All my friends are like Pat and don't wanna scratch their paint so I usually go alone or with my one buddy but I'm sick of the "trails" here. |

All my friends are like Pat and don't wanna scratch their paint so I usually go alone or with my one buddy but I'm sick of the "trails" here. glad you're finally up for a tromp through the bush. my truck already has a few full body scruffs-i've got one going the full length of the roof (passenger side, outside of the roof rack), have absolutely no idea where that one came from!?! :icon_shrug: so long as i don't dent panels (front bumper doesn't count :icon_teeth:) im good. mo' pic's of the hoops on, http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...HPIM3552-1.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...HPIM3554-1.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/HPIM3555.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/HPIM3556.jpg NOTE TO SELF: always check the short grass for clippings before driving on it-especially when you just spent 50 minutes putting on the Meguiar's Endurance Tire Gel! :icon_doh: if only it were that easy Brad, 'cause i'm sure Alex would luv to come out. maybe he'll actually road trip this way like he mentioned earlier this year. it'd be cool too, if Matt would road trip up to The Great White North. it's even safe (@ this time of year) for his salt-virgin Ghost to come visit. :) as for the wheelin' alone (or with that one friend only), you've got my # (and email), why don't you guys ever give a shout? maybe we could hit some down here? i'm dying to try out an area i found-but i'm not trekkin' it alone, that's for sure!) ok, so now everybody sees how nice the Enkei look on the truck, you can also see just how bad they really are.................... http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/HPIM3547.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/HPIM3548.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/HPIM3549.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/HPIM3550.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/HPIM3551.jpg but that should make it aloteasier to get the chrome stripped off. i'm gonna polish them after. maybe i'll see about getting them re-chromed-if my buddy can get me a good deal on that (like maybe sneaking them in with another order a few times? :icon_wink:) now that i'm pretty well sold on them looking good on the truck, now i've got a bigger issue.......................TIRES! i'm probably gonna go bigger than the size that's on them right now (245/65/R17, OD of 29.53"). i've been looking around on 1010tire.com for that last hour-probably more like 2 (or 3!). i'm looking @ a size (diameter x width) of 245/70R/17 (30.50" x 9.64") or 255/70/R17 (31.05" x 10.03"). i also found a 265/70/R17 but that tire is 31.60" x 10.43", kinda large for the stock 4.3 (IMO), and will definately need a proper lift-t-bars crank/shackles won't cut it i'm sure-and i'm really sure that's not in the budget. and don't bother mentioning a BL, i sooooooo can't stand those! and i'm not gonna bash 'n trim lower fenders! these were the tires-in order of preference-that i've been looking @ tonight............... Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar (really luvin' the tread design on these) Firestone Destination M/T (i know a few members have this tire too) General Grabber AT2 Nitto Terra Grappler * Kumho Road Venture MT (KL71) * (this is an awsome performing tire & tread design) Yokohama Geolander M/T+ * (another long time favorite in design/performance) * these tires are available only in a 31.60" diameter-except for the Nitto (not supper impressed by the semi-highway look)-and would require a real lift kit, which, like i said above, isn't in the bank account. well *whew* that's enough to fill a page (or two!!) for now. i'm actually gonna do the ultimate road test right now-i've gotta go rescue brother #3 since his Malibu (bleh) tossed it's tensioner & pulley. guess it's lucky for him i finally have my trailer back @ home. :) let me know what you guys think about the look of them on the truck, my selection of rubber, and the fitting of said tires (regarding fitting with the t-bar crank/shackles). have a good one, i'll be back later. :icon_verzsilly: |
I would love to travel to the "home-land." I always wanted to visit Canada. Do some fishing, and hunting, enjoy a big city that is SAFE... I think I could make the best of it.
|
Chris... Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmors = Sex IMO... I put them on my Sierra and LOVE them.
And Matt... unless you come up in October you're not doing any hunting lmao. |
That'd be fine with me. Now I need to save up some money for a ticket, lol.

yeah, i saw them while i was lookin' around, but they look too "highway" for me. don't think they'd stand up to playing in anything other than puddles. too bad Sadie doesn't get dirty..................maybe then i'd know what those SilentArmor's would be like. :icon_razz: sorry, i just had to poke a little. ok, that's it for me, i've gotta get up in 3 hours. we need to regrade the entrance into the lower fair grounds for our car show on Sunday. have a good one all. |
W/ the roadhazard, if you get stuck because of the tires, Goodyear will come pull you out. They give you a 1-800 number to call and they send a tow truck out.
|
Hey that's pretty cool!
|
Just with the "offroad" truck tires IIRC though
|
Well, I don't think I'll have to worry about that.
|
today i spent most of the afternoon, & the evening, messing with the Blazer. actually, i only did 1 of the 3 things i had planned to do get accomplished.
my brother called me as i was leaving work @ 1 o'clock, telling me his truck isn't shifting out of 2nd gear, so i need to trailer it down to the show in a few hours. maybe i should be hitting the hay since i need to get up @ 4:30..................aww, what's another 10 (or 20?) minutes on here gonna do to me? :icon_shrug: so i spent a little over an hour ripping apart the back of the Blazer, trying to figure out why everything is acting screwy when i hook up my trailer (electric brakes come on with the parking lights, right signal grounds on-no flash, parking lights get brighter with the brake lights). after tearing it all apart & checking everything (finding that there was nothing wrong with the truck :icon_doh:), i had to put it back together. then i had to find out what was going on with the trailer. long story short.........after checking nearly 55 feet of wiring & conections (and trying to remember how i wiried it all in) i traced the problem down to my rear light assemblies. seems they're grounding out the system somehow. when i unplugged them completely ('cause just doing the parking lights or brake/signals by themselves didn't show me any clue to the problem) the front signals/marker lights worked fine. hmmm.............just realized, when i unplugged the left light, i also unplugged the secondary hook-up i have for the other trailer @ the back of my flatbed. maybe the problem is in that tail? :icon_doh: great! more to dig through now!! anyways, i did replace the right hub on the Blazer finally. sounded like it had square bearings in it! :icon_no: also found out that the creaking/clunking bj noise i've been hearing for the last month (or so) aren't the factory originals-they're bolted in WITHOUT GREASE NIPPLES INSTALLED!!!! :icon_doh: so it looks like whoever did it for her (the original owner) obviously never knew what they were doing. that's pretty bad that they were replaced long before i bought the truck w/158K on it. oh yeah, i'm gonna be doing the front sway bar links too. they looked pretty dry 'n flakey. oh well, @ least the truck is the colour of money-'cause i'm sure gonna be dumping some into it in the near future! (thank God i never pay retail for my auto stuff :icon_wink:). guess it's about time i actually had to invest some $$$$ into it. :icon_shrug: |
Talk about investing money, I've sunk about $50 into my blazer on a lower valence and bumper side, because some coyote decided to run out and smack my bumper and break my plastic bits....nothing a trip to the local pick and pull didnt solve, and now i have to replace my drivers mirror because someone turned it the wrong way....the way it doesn't fold up......maybe its time to spend some money and get a decent set of wheels and tires for myself...
