Mikal's '98 Blazer Audio Build
Posted this on a few forums I'm part of, and completely forgot about this one.
So, here you go
This next one was a reply to comment that read:
More updates soon.
So, here you go
Didn't post this in the January '10-'11 Build Off section, because it's not a performance build, just an audio build.
I'll be updating this little by little, and it will be slow, as my cash flow is slow.
Anyway, what I'm going for:
JVC KD-AVX77
Rockford Fosgate P1462 (Dash Speakers)
Rockford Fosgate R1653 (Front Doors)
Rockford Fosgate P152 (Back Doors)
DC Sound Lab Level 3 12" Subwoofer (x2)
Custom ported box, tuned at about 35hz
Currently has:
Really crappy Alpine Headunit
Really crappy Sony Xplod speakers in front and back doors
Rockford Fosgate P1462 in the dash.
Will get pics of the Blazer later.
--------------
Update #1
Went shopping online for the Rockford Fosgate P1462 speakers on Wednesday, ordered then from "Hooked On Tronics"
Got home from school on Friday, and looky what I got.
I wonder what could be in there?
Let's see.
Mmmm, let's open these bad boys up.
Tasty tasty.
Here's a shot of the spiders if anyone wants to see.
Anyway, here's the crappy Sony Xplods they replaced.
Not sure if you can tell, but try to see how the previous owner of the Blazer only secured these Xplods with ONE screw, and they even BROKE the speaker grill just to make it fit. They were the wrong size.
Anyway, got the P1462s in, didn't take any pics though. I'll get some tomorrow. They sound great. I <3 RF.
--------------
Update #2
Even though I will eventually be getting 2 12" DC subs in, I will have a temporary set up until I get some money.
My brother is selling his truck, and taking his subs out, and letting me put them in the Blazer.
So, it 2 weeks, I'll have 3 12" Kickers in a sealed box in the back.
Not "top of the line" but definitely better than nothing. They get loud.
And as for a headunit, I just don't have an extra $600 for the JVC headunit, and really want a decent DVD player in my dash, so I will be replacing the crappy Alpine with something cheap from either Walmart or Best Buy (Ughhh gross.) as long as it has an iPod hookup. (This Alpine only have a 12 disk changer, and it skips. Gross.)
Anyway.
Yeah.
Feel free to comment.

As promised, a picture of the Blazer itself.
And the ****tastic Alpine headunit that's currently in it.
So far, no update on anything else yet.

needs more exterior mods
Can't do anything "permanent" until I pay my parents back. :uhoh:
But, they don't care if I do this stuff.
And don't pull the "pay them off before you pay for audio" because, well, my parents aren't making me pay them back for a while
Anyway. Once I do, it'll be painted a flat black or flat gunmetal gray, and will be getting a lift (5" maybe?) with some 32"s (or bigger?)
edit-
Oh yeah, getting 5% tint in the rear.
Then, possibly 5% on the front windows, if not, then probably about 20% or 30%
Still deciding on the windshield. Definitely not doing 5% on that, maybe 25%

Another small update.
Physical update:
We finally got all the RCA's, power, and remote wire ran through, and will have the amp and subs in hopefully tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday at the latest.
I'll have some pics of the RCA's and whatever later.
Plan update:
As always when trying to plan the future, plans will change.
When I had originally planned to have 2 Fi BLs pushed by 2 T1500-1bds, that was when I was certain that I would be getting about $4k of "play" money over the summer.
That has changed, so here's the new plans.
In addition to what I have now:
The Rockford Fosgate P1653 set will still be going into the front doors.
Instead of a Rockford Fosgate P400-4 to push my speakers, I will be getting a P500-4.
Instead of 2 12" Fi BL subs pushed by 3000 watts of awesome Rockford Fosgate power, I will be getting 1 18" Fi SSD, pushed by a single P1000-1bd amp from Rockford Fosgate.
The box will be tuned to about 32Hz, and while getting 2000 watts less than the previous planned build, should still get pretty God **** loud for a daily driver.

I've some FatMat (cheaper than Dynamat, works almost as good. Will have to double layer a bit of it) and I'm not getting crossovers simply for the fact that I'm getting P500-4 4channel amp soon, and I won't need crossovers when using that.
I'm using so much RF because I'm the type of person that likes to keep one brand throughout stuff. Except their subs are ****, so I'm using Fi, which is one of the 'better' quality subs on the market.

Alright, got her all fixed up again.
Next order of business: electrical upgrade.
God **** voltage drop made me pull too many amperes, and blew my fuse.
Time for another battery, and a new alternator. Woo.
Also:
Finally made up my mind for my "future" system.
First off, I'll be getting one Sundown Audio SAZ-1000D, to push my Kickers for a while.
Then, when I get the money, I'll be getting one more SAZ-1000D, and 2 Fi 15" subs, either the SSD, Q, or BL series. Haven't chose which series yet.

Right now, the 3 Kickers are in it, being pushed by the 500W JL.
I'm saving for a SAZ-1000D right now.
Also saving for another battery and a new alt at some point.
