My 1996 Blazer Rebuild... 56k Beware...

Well I got my Blazer about 2 Years ago and I really have put this thing through hell and back. 3 months after I got it the engine blew, not my fault had a bad rod. After that I clipped a pole after leaving a ex girlfriends house and then A few months back I hit a deer and that really screwed up the front end. Ended up fixing the original Core Support I am using the original damaged bumper until I can modify one out of a old semi bumper I have. Going to buy a Brush guard off of JC whitney and Beef it up some, add a body lift in time. Now for the pics... Theres a good amount of them. The fender i bought it too jacked up to use so until i get a new fender the grille will have to stay off, which isn't a bad thing. Gives me more time to paint it...

Painted the Grille Up today, matching Green as the Blazer. Went to the car wash and gave the blazer a quick bath.

Saw a Blazer on Craigslist that had the grille painted to match the body and it looked pretty sharp...

Still working on it! Haven't had a bunch of time lately for it but I have been doing a bit. Changed the front brake pads yesterday and experimented with a 2wd Rim. I like the offset on it and the design a bit better. Got my lights all wired up. Here are a few pics...

Hopefully I can get started on my new bumper soon and then Rhino line the rocker panels. I'm thinking about hacking up the grille guard and making it a solid piece of the new bumper.

RE: My 1996 Blazer Rebuild... 56k Beware...

Wow man, that looks a lot like mine lol. I got the same guard off JC whitney and I'm gonna order a driver side fender off them too. Looks way good. The only thing I don't like about the brush guard is that I think the brush guards are a little high. I thought about drilling a few new holes and moving them down about an inch. But man that Blazer looks much better in comparison to the before photos. Also, what kind of headlight/driving lights you got hooked up?

comin along nice dude, just IMO i dont like how high the guard is. would look 100% better if the guard was lowered, or if this body lift will do the trick. keep it updated, cant wait to see the lift as im putting one on mine too!

RE: My 1996 Blazer Rebuild... 56k Beware...

I think the lift sounds good, as does the new bumper. You getting bigger tires as well?

RE: My 1996 Blazer Rebuild... 56k Beware...

Update!

Well I decided to scrap the Idea for the bumper, I didn't have the tools to make what I wanted. But On the good side, Went to U PULL IT with my buddy looking for stuff for his jeep and found a near perfect bumper... Snagged it up for $54 bucks. Took the brush guard off, Didn't want to drill into the new bumper. Also I've been at a stand still on wither or not to get a body lift and 31x15.50 tires. Been thinking about Sticking with the stock Suspension and getting 30x9.50's. But When it warms up I'm finishing the paint on this thing! It really needs it. BTW been debating on getting rid of the tow hooks up front and adding receiver tubes. Anyone got a good place to buy parts?

Here's a Spoiler... 2 came on Saturday, the others will be here tomorrow!

It does look good, but why did the grille change color? lol

CraigSnedeker 08-07-2009 07:17 AM

Looking good =D I'd paint all the trim dark black instead of factory gray, that'll look sharp =D

The Grille was getting VERY Chipped up so i sanded it all down and re did it in black, So far its been Black,Green and back to Black. On a side note I got a new ac Compressor today and WOW the ac is freezing. I've never had it before. And here's a cleaned up pic at work today. Sorry about the quality, it's a cell pic.

blazeitupdrgonzo 08-07-2009 07:14 PM

Your blazer looks really good now, its cool to see all the work in progress. Your bosses truck looks like it could use some tlc too

sporty_drew 08-07-2009 08:13 PM

Looks good, what happened with the Cragers?

wGraves 08-08-2009 07:41 AM

Had to sell them. Came into some bad money issues.

wGraves 11-29-2009 12:04 PM

I'm thinking it's time for a fullsize silverado... Hit another deer this weekend. Not to much damage, needs a hood and grille. I just want a truck now... I dont think im going to mess with it to much more.

wGraves 11-29-2009 12:06 PM

On the plus side i got a little 8 point buck and got a freezer full of deer!

Sisk 11-29-2009 12:17 PM

Wow, talk about bad luck with your Blazer lol. That sucks man.

wGraves 12-29-2009 10:58 AM

Got really lucky this past weekend. Went to the Local Pick and Pull and Found a hood for 55 bucks. Even the same color! Grille Should be here tomorrow. I've got a bad gap on the drivers side where the hood and fender meet. Any ideas on how to fix that and make them a little better matching up?

It looks great! The hood or fender was off before the deer. But it looks good now! Any more plans for it?

Yep, Planning on getting some new lights for the bumper and the roof rack, Body lift, new tires and rims. My tax return is going into the blazer and thats about it. I got shackles for it just gotta get the bushings before I put them on. The hood was messed up from the last time more than I noticed. But the new hood seams to have taken care of all that.

sporty_drew 12-30-2009 04:58 PM

Dang! Looking good!

cbr995 12-30-2009 05:22 PM

And Here it is, I've heard a ton of people say it couldn't be done. A 98+ Brush Guard on a -98 Blazer. Or I've heard it Won't look right well here is mine. I'll get better pictures soon but i think it looks just fine on there, Like it was Meant for it!
