Hey your project truck has the same rusty fenders.
I will keep a note of your thread as you build.
I'm looking to start with a body lift.

Cavalier z24 06-29-2009 11:46 PM

Yeah a very common 1st gen problem will be ording some new fenders on Friday just need to fine a go0d quality set of fenders, going to primer them and coat the inner side with bed liner and the under lips as well i will have pics of the process as well :)

Cavalier z24 07-03-2009 10:23 PM

Well i just ordered the new fenders and hope they are decently strong and not aluminum foil lol here

lol yeah i had it sitting since my last time off roading

c0a8l0v6i8n9 07-22-2009 07:49 AM

looks like a good fit did you have to persuade the fenders a whole lot to line up just right?

Cavalier z24 07-23-2009 05:21 AM

Now actually i love them for 87.00 and free shipping they are great i compared them to my buddy's new fenders that are gm parts and there just as good quality and they fit right up very nicely no banging them in or in place the driver side gave me a little hard time because that side was pushed in like a half inch from bumping into a tree off roading but i love them i could not of found a better deal. :)

Cavalier z24 08-07-2009 10:13 PM

Going to start sanding tomorrow and tips?

91chevywt 08-08-2009 11:37 AM

Where did you get your fenders from? My passenger side has a little rust, if I can get a new one for $87 as opposed to a junkyard one I may spring for it.

Cavalier z24 08-09-2009 01:26 AM

Ebay :) Great quality as well

Cavalier z24 06-10-2010 07:44 PM

Well a few days ago i got back into my project and sanded and patched the hood and front bumper and now working on the tale-gate all seems to be going well.
Comments and suggestions are more than welcome :)

Cavalier z24 06-11-2010 12:24 AM

How well do you think the tale-gate will hold up with me just bondo hair the bottom since alot of metal was eaten away from rust? as you can see in my first picture of my last post

oktain 06-11-2010 08:01 AM

Bondo ftmfl... It'll look great for a bit, and then it'll peel off and look like hell...

Junkyard tailgate, you have primed parts anyway, might as well have a primed tailgate IMO, and then get everything sprayed at once.

Cavalier z24 06-11-2010 03:12 PM

Damn well i will try and weld some new metal on and do it right instead of just straight bondo, yeah ill look into getting a new tale gate too and see if it will be better than way depending on the shape and how much it cost

Cavalier z24 06-12-2010 06:26 PM

Up date of the front end put back together and the rear gate finished

Cavalier z24 06-12-2010 06:35 PM

Now on too the rear bumper then the two back doors

MTopper 06-13-2010 02:43 PM

any pictures of the places you welded up on the tailgate?

Cavalier z24 06-13-2010 05:48 PM

No i did not end up welding it i used Fiber glass filler on the big holes and then after i reformed it i used regular bondo over top of that, i called and asked the local body shop and they told me to do it that way and it would work fine. So we will have to wait and see haha But it came out very nice cant even tell it was ever damaged or had holes

MTopper 06-13-2010 06:07 PM

ok, nice work. looks pretty good from the distance.

Cavalier z24 06-13-2010 06:46 PM

Thanks, ill get some close ups a bit later

Cavalier z24 06-14-2010 04:25 PM

Cavalier z24 06-16-2010 06:26 PM

Waiting on more money to come in so that's why my thread has been kinda slow i know i have been working on this blazer since i got it almost two years ago, i don't really have a job atm my fiance is the only one working but i work with my land lord to pay off rent so funds are kinda strict.

But i don't let that get me down to much i love and think about working on vehicles all the time this is some thing i love doing more than anything else i could not be more happier i work out of a small tool box with cheap tools and maybe a few craftsman tools.

And i still manage to get things done, i am determined to get something done when i set my mind on it and wont stop until i finish it.

So when i look back at what the blazer looked like and i think about a cheap tools and spray can primer and think i did damn good so far so let me know what you guys think

MTopper 06-16-2010 07:39 PM

I hear you on that. for a limited amount of tools and cash, the truck looks awesome. i too work with very limited tools. cheap sears toolbox thats about 15 years old and most of my power tools are just as old or older. all inherited from my dad (as was the blazer).

i commend you on the work you've done so far.

although i will give you a hard time about the pack in the one picture:icon_doh::icon_teeth:

i used to be a heavy smoker... now its a rare occasion/working on cars when i have one

Thanks a lot :) Yeah i know i been trying to stop for a while but when ever i get into working or doing something i have an urge to smoke lol but i have slowed down a good bit.

Yeah i think most of my tools where giving to me besides a few and some power tools

MTopper 06-16-2010 07:53 PM

i'm not trying to be the cancer police (as my mother calls it) but i'm just looking out for my fellow enthusiast. btw, do you still have the 97' Cavy? i had a 97 rally sport that i loved but i sold it and bought the blazer off my mom. if you have it, throw some pics up. there are 2 near me that are turbo but are complete POS from the drivers

Cavalier z24 06-16-2010 10:22 PM

these are what i have its been in storage with a blown tranny these pics are a few days it was taken to storage, Its going to cost me about 3600 to rebuilt that tranny since its not just a regular cavalier z24 tranny
