Red Riding Hood (95 Blazer build)

I just picked up a 95 Blazer in pretty good shape...Needed a few things but nothing major...

First thing i did was remove the ugly running boards

Before
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1415979351

After
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1415979351

Then got these in the mail since both mirrors were broken... :icon_question:
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1415979351

After a clean up this is what it looks like, for now...
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1415979351

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1415979351

First things i'll be doing is just fixing the little things, the heat/ac can't be directed to a certain vent (Vent, floor, defrost,etc..) so that will be fixed this weekend.. Next is remove the Blazer emblem and side trim and bedline the rockers.

Eventually i want to lift a little (Nothing crazy as it is my daily driver) ad bigger wheels and tires, add roof rack and lighting.. Who knows what else i'll do.

Tajohns34 11-14-2014 01:36 PM

Those running boards are so fugly. It looks 10x better without them. The body looks pretty good so far.

jbrooks19 11-14-2014 01:59 PM

Yeah they are ugly!! Body is in pretty great shape, no rust.. Only dent is below the rear driver side taillight.

Well, had an issue directing the air to different vents in my Blazer. So i took the dash apart to fond the hissing..

Looks like it is this switch:
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1416323894

Backside view
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1416323894

This is the switch that is hissing, i believe this is the issue so i'll replace it first.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1416323894

This is the plug it comes out of, on the back side is all the vacuum lines
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1416323894

Here is the plug out of the dash
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1416323894

Now here is the real kicker, can't get this from: Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, O'reilly, or NAPA.... Soooo, i found it on Ebay. GM P/N:15-72150 and is called a HVAC Control Vacuum Valve (The reason i give the PN is because it was a B!tch to find)

I'm waiting on the part still to see if it fixes the problem, I will update this post as i find the root of my problems.

My goal is to get all these little issues fixed first then move on to lift, new tires and other upgrades.

This came into my work today to service the plow and get it ready for winter... REALLY clean S15.. Interior was very minty, no pics of it as I was secretly taking this picture lol Didn't want the owner to think i was off in the head, although i am...

jbrooks19 11-20-2014 10:02 AM

Replaced the HVAC Control Vacuum Valve and air still dosn't work right. Next will be the blend door actuator. I no longer have the hissing sound behind the dash since replacing the HVAC Control Vacuum Valve..

jbrooks19 11-24-2014 09:42 AM

So, i replaced the Blend Door Actuator...Anyone who says you don't have to take the dash completely out must have the worlds smallest hands..

I removed the entire dash and replaced the blend door actuator. While doing this i noticed someone replaced the heater core and broke the cover to the point that no air would stay in the heat ducts which is why i had no fan pressure.. so i patched the cover and put the dash back on and yay!!! i now have heat!! Man, i hope to never have to do that again!

Red Sled 11-24-2014 12:26 PM

Looking good!!! TWINS LOL

jbrooks19 12-01-2014 03:51 PM

Pretty stoked... Got a lot of upgrades ordered.. Now just need time to install them all.

List is as follows:
New Rockford Fosgate, 6.75" For the front doors, 5.25 Speakers for the rear doors and 4 Rockford Fosgate Tweeters.
Wagner Thermo-Quiet pads
Roof Rack (No-name-brand)
HID conversion kit
Carbon Fiber Tailights
2" Shackles
Truck bed coating for rockers and under body
4 new shocks (Monroe)
MOOG: Ball Joints, Sway Bar Links, Sway Bar Bushings and tie rods.

Gonna be a couple months until i can get everything installed due to a newborn and a 2yr old..They keep me busy so I have to work on it in the garage after they go to bed.

Just an update..

Got all the Rockford Fosgate speakers and tweeters installed and it sounds GREAT!! Next step is a 10" Rockford sub.. I only want one 10" just to ad some bass and not being annoyingly loud.

Are you going to use a ported or sealed box? I'm just curious.

247monster 12-07-2014 02:41 PM

Looks good! keep it up

Thanks man! Iv'e got a lot of projects and ideas brewing for this Blazer. I probably won't go to the extreme of a SAS since i drive it daily with a family of 4 and also take this vehicle on vacations.

Picked this up off of craigslist for $10... Not a Hi-Lift but it should do the trick, plus i couldn't pass up that deal.

https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1418056251

And ordered a mount for it to put it on the roof rack.

What's funny is that mine drives better now than it ever did when it was still IFS the only problem family wise is that I literally carry a 5 gallon bucket around and have to pull it out every time my wife needs to get in lol! Vacations aren't an issue for me tho cause we always rent a SUV when we go places just for piece of mind that if it breaks we call, they come, we leave, they deal with the broken vehicle lol!

Yeah i understand that. I like to live on the wild side and take my chances of a break down.....I'm kind of a bad ass.. lol I like the 5 gallon bucket idea.. my wife is like 5'4" and i would like to see her climb in using a bucket as a step lol

I think more than anything the reason i won't do a SAS is because I don't have the equipment or knowledge on how to fabricate stuff to make it work. Nor do i have the time with 2 boys below 2yrs old.. :icon_bubbles:

jbrooks19 12-09-2014 07:16 AM

Just an update on last nights progress...

Got all the frame painted and started working on getting the lights mounted..
I also looked at the shackles because i was gonna put my lift shackles on but the bolts are pretty rusted and I think it would be wise to get a replacement set of bolts and bushings before tearing it apart.

Trust me I completely understand the young children and no time thing! If I didn't have a job that allowed me free time to work on my truck it would still be stock lol!

jbrooks19 12-09-2014 01:24 PM

Just an update on the lift shackles... I found a college student (He's gong for automotive repair) who wants experience and said he would install my shackles for $50 and a 6-pack of beer lol (Yes he is 21, i checked his ID ;) ) I'm so happy i dont have to install them..I dont have the time but want them done badly.

I'm a John Deere and Outdoor power equipment salesman..Usually we have down time during the winter and the owners allow us more payed time off and more use of the shop. But, with the winter weather we are expecting again this year we have been so busy selling snow blowers and snow plows there hasn't been any down time. Although, they did give me a $5k bonus since we have been so busy so i guess i shouldn't complain.

richphotos 12-09-2014 03:14 PM

If you are just trying to get a little base and not be "annoying". I would go sealed on the box.

Tajohns34 12-10-2014 06:23 AM

Sealed boxes also require less space.

jbrooks19 12-11-2014 03:48 PM

Update on the shackles: The kid i had doing it finished it today, he had to burn out the bushings and cut the old shackles in half.. He still only wanted $50 including new bolts and bushings.... I gave him an extra six-pack tho to cover the added difficulty.. Tonight i'll crank up the torsion bars about an inch or so and shes done.

jbrooks19 12-11-2014 03:50 PM

He had 6 hours of time into swapping out the shackles.

jbrooks19 12-12-2014 12:14 PM

After the 2in shackles and cranked up the T-Bars about 1.5in. I like how this looks but may want to add a couple more inches next summer.

Got my jack mounted... Not 100% sure if i like the location but that was the only place my mounts would work. May build some other mount next summer when it warms up.

Well, I will be picking up in the next couple of days a set of BF Goodrich AT in 31x10.5 R15 for $200! They have 75% tread left. I think that $200 is a great price.

10-78 edac 12-22-2014 09:08 PM

Check the date codes, I've had good looking tires fail.

Well, Blazer got a face lift (Painted the grill) Also, installed new headlight bulbs that are supposed to be brighter than stock, they arent, they are whiter though. I really need to convert to HID type lights.

jbrooks19 12-29-2014 01:07 PM

31's will be on tomorrow!!!! Can't wait!!!!

jbrooks19 12-29-2014 01:14 PM

Also, ditched the aftermarket bulbs and ordered the HID conversion kit for my Lo-Beams and I'll do the Hi's when my wallet (Wife) will allow. Women suck sometimes, and not in a good way...Lol

I learned a lesson, if you can buy both sets of 9005 and 9006 bulbs for $10 shipped, there is a reason they are so cheap. I might have well been sticking a flashlight out the window to drive, it probably would have worked better.

jbrooks19 12-30-2014 07:18 AM

Shes accross the road getting the 31's installed! Can't wait. There is a hill behind my work that i just barely cant clear. Even after the 1.5 torsion and 2" shackle lift i hit the frame before the back tires can clear. Hopefully these new tires give me that little bit more ground clearance i need to make it up the hill. If i make it up the hill there will be pics!

The grill looks so much better all black. I really dislike chrome on anything after 1980.

jbrooks19 01-05-2015 11:57 AM

well, the build is on hold due to it being stuck in 4LO, I tried to locate the issue myself but i lack the diagnostic tools to find the problem. So, its at the shop... Hopefully won't be expensive and they get it done today.. We have 6in of snow coming tonight and ill be pissed if i cant try out the new tires in some snow.

rexmburns 01-05-2015 02:40 PM

I agree no chrome looks mo betta! You will be happy with those tires in the snow I have had them on a couple vehicles in the past and they do really well.

jbrooks19 01-05-2015 03:32 PM

Yeah, hopefully I'll get to try them out. The shop has not had a chance to look at it yet :(
