Z28 Rim Restoration
tires are pretty solid. i went out about a week ago after we had that like 2 weeks of rain, and didnt get stuck once in the mud, plus they're a lot smoother on the highway than my old POS tires. heres a quick pic of that...
Well I finally have them prepped for paint pictures will be following as soon as I get them loaded to my comp. Tip for the interested the masking takes forever! But on another note here is a question for you all...When clear coating. should i just clear the painted area? or should I do the polished aluminum surface as well? Im leaning towards just the paint.
If its polished (looks like chrome) then you dont have to clear it.
But if its unpolished it will turn white in no time if you dont clear it.
Ive done lots of wheel restos in my days in the detail shops, and I would personally finish the wheels, get some of that spray on mask, spray the whole wheel, wash off the part you are going to paint, then paint it a few times.... then wash the whole wheel, THEN clearcoat the ****e out of them... The whole things. Make sure you use auto clearcoat as its UV resistant.
Its also easy to paint the whole wheel, clearcoat the whole wheel, then grab your grinder pads and buzz off the paint on the front then polish the surface to a shine.
The spraymask is what bodyshops use so they can be lazy and dont ahve to tape off a whole car just to paint a fender. It sprays on wet, dries fast, then washes off with water and takes the overspray with it.
