Default EGR Valve

Can the EGR valve be removed and the opening blocked off without damaging the engine. I usually remove the EGR on lightly modified carbureted engines that are used off road and was wondering if I can do the same with the fuel injected engines. It is a 93 S10 Blazer with Vortec engine.

Thanks

Bill
