IMO this book is a must-have for anyone doing a V8 swap into their S10 Truck or Blazer:

JTR Chevrolet S-10 Truck V-8 Conversion

It's well worth the $20 investment.

Doing the math is it about 3200 pounds.

Ah, now that makes since.
Wild paint scheme, I like it.
Yea with those tires and gears I bet it's a real dog, plus your gonna suck fuel BIG TIME getting it to roll.
Even with a motor swap your gearing will still suck.
Tranny won't like it either.
Bottom line you need gears, and the size you need won't work with the stock front diff.

After talking with a specialist on gearing and 4x4's....
He recommended that I go back to my 35" tires for clearance....
and then use a 4.27 gearing change to be equal to stock.... or a 4.56 for a bit more pep on low end.....

Also Im thinking toward supercharger and other upgrades to get more HP.... instead of a entire motor swap.....

What U Think? :icon_headbang:

A marine 4.3L intake w/ a Wynjammer Centrifugal Supercharger would wake things up a bit. The gearing a lone will make the truck much more responsive.

4.56 Gears & 35's are what I'm running, & I really like the combo.

Honestly, and yes I did buy the book, that's just an overpriced catalog with them telling you to buy more of their parts. 99% of their parts are gm replacement parts you can easily get at any parts store without jtr markup. Most also barely do the job with much better options out there.

Much better free info on the net from guys that have done the swaps, drive them more than 2 weeks before they sell them, and not trying to sell parts with a markup on them.

I'd suggest v8s10.org for starters.
Make sure you type .ORG and not .com. The .com is jtrs forum/pay site. You can sign up over there for free but only make one post a day unless you pay and then they only suggest their parts.
The .org is totally free and is made of of guys who drive and race their trucks. They are not in it to make any money helping you and will tell you the parts that have been found to work best.

It sounds like the book has gone through some changes since I got mine about 6 years ago. The book I purchased is full of OE part numbers, tips, tricks and illustrations that makes the V8 swap a literal bolt-in project. I found that utilizing OE parts (engine mounts/crossmembers/exhaust manifolds/etc) purchased from a wrecking yard made for an economical yet solid and functional swap versus paying the outrageous prices the aftermarket companies wanted for their conversion parts. If you can find that info on forums now that's great, but it wasn't there when I was doing my swap. :icon_wink:

Its changed a few times over the years. The first one I got was the first printing before forums and the web. It actually was ok for the time. Now its only a good read on the crapper. I have the second to last printing and wouldn't suggest it to anybody.

Most companies only charge a few bucks or give their catalog away. Jtr is only in it to make money now days. The rads the suggest and sale are nothing but hd 4.3 or corvette rads. In the southern states they just don't cool in the summer on daily drivers. They did make a pretty good poly 2.8 replacement mount but in the last 2 years cps redesigned a set to be stronger and sells them for close to the same price.
