How many miles are we talking here? Does it burn oil? What, other than miles, would prompt you to replace the motor?

it has 185000 on it. there is oil on the bottom but i never had to put oil in it since i had it i check it 1 time a week. i just want to find a new engine. i will be drivin this vehicle to and from kentucky so i prefer to have a new engine.
i dont know if i agree with that where i live i have been seeing blazer for 5000 or more i dont think it will cost that much to get a new engine. and that is for a 95 to 97 range and they go up from there.
if you have no noises and your not burning oil i wouldnt worry about the motor at all,, those 4.3 are one of the best running motors in american vehicles along with the longest lasting,,, i have seen those motors go to about 300,000 at a local shipping company we have here
Personally I would just rebuild. Then you know what you got. Seeing as I have a backup daily driver, it wont hurt me to have mine down to rebuild any part or the whole thing. Total over haul if you do it yourself would run under $500, shop cost OUCH, replace motor with crate $1800 and up just for the motor (pending short block or long block)
well i dont have a back up vehicle. but it gives me something to think about so ill decide. it was goin to be a bit till i go active duty at the first of the year before i could afford it but thanks for all of your opnions might just rebuild anyways.
