What about when you gop through a carwash the one by my house shoots water straight up from the ground to clean the underbody, what happens when water hits the filter? Does any of it pass through?

you do realize that the filter is sitting above the inner fender well, right?

take another look under your hood, you'll realize it's nearly impossible for the water from those to hit it. and take a look under the vehicle the next time you use one. it's pretty much the same footprint as your frame.
