00' Jimmy engine question
so, I made a deal with my grandparents to buy a repossessed (they own a car dealership) 00' GMC Jimmy SLE 4x4 with 170K on it. The problem is, they said it needs a engine, I'm expecting the worse with the engine, so with that being would it be worth putting 300$ into for a rebuild kit? its in really, really good shape (no rust, i live in Mississippi). I haven't even tried to start it, but i know it cranks over (turns over). What do you guys think what would be best to do?? I can get a rebuild kit for around 250$ and i wouldn't even have $1,000 into the truck when its done and over with.
The background on the truck is, my grandparents bought it, and sold it to this guy, he had it for 5 months and didn't make the 6th payment on it, we went and got it and the guy said it needed a engine, and we put it in the spot it's sitting in now. we didn't try to start it or anything.
I'm hoping it only needs like a intake gasket, or a head gasket, at worse, it will need to be rebuilt/replaced. The reason why i want this truck is because i grew up around the same truck, so i have memory's in this truck (not the same one but all the same options and color) and its just a kick *** truck. haha.
thanks for any help, Joshua.

Thing of it is without being able to drive it you don't know the condition of the rest of the vehicle (drivetrain, steering, brakes). I recently put $1700 dollars into the transmission, torque converter,a few other misc. associated parts on our '96 Blazer. But I knew the rest of the vehicle was in VG shape. Just something to consider.

This is the truck as it sits at the moment, its really dirty from siting, but under all that dirt its a really clean, and nice paint job.[IMG][/IMG]
