Default '05 4x4 shifting problem

Short & sweet. Used to not shift into 4hi on occasion. Sometimes had to push 4hi twice. Now won't shift at all into 4. Tried stopping & shifting in neutral. When I try to engage 4 wheel drive, 4hi & 2hi flash simultaneously then go back to 2hi. Doesn't appear to be any noise when this happens. Actuator?? Sensor?? Vacuum??

I have an 05 also - just found out today that there are problems that require the transfer ase to be taken apart and looked at. I wonder if this is 'possibly' a defect? How many miles do you have on yours?

I would highly doubt that you need to remove and disassemble the transfer case to determine the cause of the problem.

Do both of you have the Auto4wd option?

Mine has the auto 4 option. When I put it in that I hear a noise only when I turn. When I put it in full-time 4x4 loud clanking. Dealer had taken the transfer case off and determined that the problem was not in my front differential.... They need to take the case apart in order to "fully diagnose" the problem. It has been recommended that I do not drive the vehicle... they think the rear wheels could 'lock up' at any given time. Any thoughts?
