180* vs stock temp thermostat results
Background : 1995 2 door blazer with 4.3 /4L60e trans.
New radiator , water pump , hoses and new superstant thermostat . I'm in S. Florida so having "heat" in a car is ... so I opt for the 180* listed on Napa's computer and install above components .
Good to go !
EXCEPT for the crazy high oil pressure at idle of like 50 , and the harsh delayed 1-2 shift points from the transmission . Engine idle higher and gas mileage dropped .
Back to Napa I go , pick up a replacement superstant @ 195* this time . Easy swap-out .
Results ?
You wouldn't think a thermostat would make such a difference in the engine operating and drive-ability of a vehicle . Engine Idle back to 650-700 , normal 35 oil pressure at idle warm and transmission shifts in normal RPM range - not wound out all the time .
