Default 1984 2.8L firing order

This is actually a 1984 GMC S15 that I am working on, but I am assuming a Blazer/Jimmy setup is the same.

2.8L carb motor. 5-spd

According to everything else I found on the internet, the distributor is 1-2-3-4-5-6 clockwise and the firing order is (front to back) 1-3-5 on passenger side and 2-4-6 on driver side. If I hook up plug wires in that order, engine will not start.

If I hook up the distributor 1-2-3-4-5-6 clockwise and the engine (front to back) 1-3-5 driver side and 2-4-6 on passenger side, engine will start but idle is extremely rough and engine dies. If you keep engine 1500+ RPM the engine runs smooth.

Any help here greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have the dizzy 180 degrees out.

The order is 12345 and 1 is on the pass side. 1 on the cap should be about at the 7 o'clock position.
