1998 Olds Bravada 5.3L swap
My first car is a 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada. I have completely rebuilt the front suspension. Due to the unique opportunity of buying a low mile motor/trans from a family member, Im looking to do a sort of restomod.
I am currently in the process of swapping the 4.3L v6 with a 5.3L LM7 from a wrecked 2000 (new body style) tahoe. The motor was replaced with a new crate engine 60,000 miles ago and the transmission was replaced 40,000 miles ago. (previous owner's estimates)
The Bravada has a SmartTrak AWD system which i hope to replace with a BW4472 from the 97bravada/cyclone/typhoon/astro. The goal of this is to increase reliability, performance, and simplicity.
Eventually I will install a 4 link suspension and coilovers, but for now its going to stay stock.
The Exaust syustem will be fabricated by my dad and I.
Ill be converting to electric heat, ac, water pump, oil pump, and power steering pump.
For brakes, ill be converting to Corvette C6 brakes.
Since I do have an entire donor vehicle, I have all of the computers and wiring harnesses from both the tahoe and the bravada. I would like to retain the functionality of the stock gauge cluster as well as the overhead information center. Most threads ive read about on this say that the best way to go would be to use the ECU from the tahoe and the body computer from the Bravada. Im down for the challenge of splicing the harnesses together, but i still havent figured out the fuse box situation. which one do I use? (I assume Ill need to repin the tahoe fuse box).
I know ill likely have to get custom drive shafts made, but i expect that.
Im still trying to find a dry sump kit that will work for this motor. finding a dry sump kit should be easier, better performing, and cheaper than finding a custom pan for this particular application.
If anyone has any thoughts or advice on this project, id love to hear it. I understand this is a bit of an impractical swap, but I'm using what I have laying around to build something awesome. Imho, The s10 blazers/bravadas should have had v8s to begin with. Every Thread I read about s10 5.3 4WD swaps are abrupt and incomplete. Ill do my best to follow up and keep this post updated.
