Default 1999 S10 Blazer T case

Hello.....New to the sight and have to say you have a GREAT site !!! Seems I'm going to be able to find alot of helpful info in here. I have a question about the transfer case in my 99 S10 Blazer that I picked up from a friend of mine. It has about 140,000 miles on it and it seems to make quite a bit of noise. I changed all the drive train fluids and everything seemed fine until I drained the T case. Other than probly unchanged fluid it seemed to have a bad burnt smell to it. put in new fluid and still have the same noise. The I.D. plate on the case has model 236GM and 272 Ratio Serial # 05-16 99A2 . I figure I will need to go through it with a rebuild. Is this an easy rebuild or should I have it done by a pro. Was gonna buy one a a junk yard but all the ones I found were smaller cases. My codes on the axles are GT4 and G80 so I know I have the 3.73 gears with the Eaton Posi. Any help or leads to a web site on the would be a GREAT help. By the way I do ALL my on work on my cars and trucks mechanical and even painting. I do work for and have built Freightliner trucks for 25 years but have NEVER worked on something like this.

Well with 80 views I figured there might be some input on this. Figured what I asked was pretty simple to understand but guess not.

A simple 'bump' would have sufficed. You asked a question over a holiday weekend when most of us are out doing the family thing... Also, splitting your post up into paragraphs & starting your sentences with a capital letter greatly increases it's legibility. The easier you can make it for those reading, the more responses you are likely to get.

As far as rebuilding the NV236 transfer case, that depends on if you are just going to toss bearings & a new chain at it, it isn't that complicated. Even if you are going to replace the clutch as a unit, still not complicated, but I would not recommend dismantling the clutch & messing with it.

Drivetrain.com has the parts.

First, does it really need it?
