2002 blue blazer
I perched a 2002 blazer in2010 . a few months later it slipped time and i tried to have this fixed my a mechanic. this person told me it was my disturber and had to by a new one $150.00 i asked about a timing Chain he said no not the prob.
Skipping a head a week or so latter the knocking starts i ask this person a bout it said i was using to high an octane that was my prob.two days later then started to lose oil pressure. asked same person chevy dealer mechanic about this. Was told my oil pump was going out. had it replaced $325.00. still had the knock and was now told i had taken to long and had bad main barrings and needed a new engine $2,500 motor and labor. Not a posability at this time and i had the felling i had been getting bent over from the start. I wound had so save my money to get a new motor. 9 months later and $900 dollars i find a engine now to pull the old one. i have never dome this ever in my life!! a few breaks pads yes this is going to suck.! |
the engine is out of blue
It took me 18 hours and lots of call to friends and a lot of you tube but i got it out putting it back in is something im am not looking forward to.

engine is in!
20 hours of knuckle busting (4 of which was mating the motor with the transmission and three getting fuel lines to go back on i am not a small person.)
the engine is back in.and stopped at that for the day.Tomorrow is wireing harness-day fun ?Right? im not thinking so.Read a post about some one with a tranny prob ?. Thay asked about the dif between shallow and deep pans. My warranty said i had to replace timing chain and transmission fluid and filter and have proof to not void warranty. when i got my filter kit thay asked if i had a shallow or deep pan. Not knowing (assuming only 4x4 and heavy towing trucks have a deep pan). I said shallow. Was this wrong? how do you tell? will this be some thing i need to revise now.? Help??? |
you probably have the deep pan, if it has a step in it its deep, shallow is rare. compare filters w the old one, will be same thickness or half the thickness for the shallow.

ongoing
NO.1 thank you trucktom for your reply i will have to take the old filter with me to auto store to see. The new one was already in before this all came up but think you.
NO.2 wiring harness is in place small problem it will not start.Good? Bad. Good is this is some thing. I was expecting to turn the key a just hear nothing but it turned.did'n't start but ill take it. several things to think about. One this truck has been siting for almost a year and before that i think i was starting to have fuel pump problems( it was getting loud).and oh i dont know i might have taken the distribute out before i had read not to do this with out marking it.oops. remember before pulling motor to read the book first. not as you do it.So i think try to set the timing tomorrow. this will also be a first for me and i learned a new phrase tdc top dead center i guess im about to learn about this. All my friend keep calling to check up on me some think it is real funny to hear how is going others are vary help full most live a long ways a way so they cant help with the hands on stuff.:icon_doh: |
#1 you did get ripped off with the dist. cap (should only have been about 50$) and im not sure about the oil pump but that sounds a little high. if you want to get a little more life out of the engine you could always try some heavy weight oil and that should quiet things down for the time being. and an engine swap isn't overly challenging you just have to have the time set aside to do it. im working on taking one out of a jimmy right now. i HIGHLY recommend taking off the front clip (core support, grille and maybe bumper) its a little extra work but makes it 10X easier to get the engine out, and you can take the transmission out with it still attached to the engine if you do it this way too.

timing
spent 5 hours trying to time my truck. Tried sticking a straw in finding tdc.
tried cranking it over to tdc. i get the oil pump lined up it still will not do a thing. Im not smelling fuel ether i think my fuel pump died. no pressure at the check on fuel lines. I have never pulled a fuel pump went to youtube and looked under truck this looks bad over $300.00 for new pump. The tank is 3/4 full. I have a bad filling im about to have to drop the tank. P.s no back fireing killed the battery twice trying to do timing.Just a hole lot of cranking |
fuel pump
I decided to pull fuel pump. went to you tube to get a more indepth idea of what i was about to do for the first time.It was not so bad. I got the tank down with out killing my self.Got the fuel pump out and went to o'riley's to get a fuel pump told them my truck them paid $385.00.(Credit card of cores)
Get it back and the plugs are different it's supplied with a new pigtail plug so im guessing im suppose to cut the old one off and wire in the new one? Im not sure. i got there wright before the store closed at 10:30pm it's now 11:00pm and there no longer there to ask if im guessing wright. I think I'll stop here for the night. no one on youtub or in the forums has said any thing about the plug on the fuel pump that i can find. To cut or not to cut that is the question. I.E is this the fuel pump i need to be using? Did they give me the wrong fuel pump? |
fuel pump plugin
So today i call around to several different auto parts stores some did not know only one told me that this is a good upgrade fuel pump and to cut the old fuel pump plug off and splice in the new one. I hope this will not come back and bite me in the ass! could not find and auto parts store with heat shrink looked at lows and home depot did not have small heat shrink so after splicing wires i taped the hell out of theme. With the fuel pump in I'm now smelling fuel up front and have fuel spraying out of the check (only when i push on it if course). Started to trying to time the beast and i am now getting back fire will not start.getting tired

Got blue timed took I don't know 10 dozen try's countless hours laptop open to forums
on how to time a engine (when you don,t drink Persia this will drive you to drinking)! Now have a (sounds like a misfire)problem #1 have new wires NOT ac delco yes i keep reading over and over in post use ac delco(not sure if im spelling that wright) But i got all of this stuff when i had the new engine on the way so i be ready and had never been to this forums yet. #2 new rowdor and cap not ac delco.#3 new spark plugs not ac delco. All of this is new and this misfire has got me to the i dont give a dam point about ready to send the truck to the barn whit a tarp. BUUUUUT i need this old boy up and running i do have a back up car im driving now payed $300 it was cheaper than a new motor it was running and it could get me back and forth to and from work untell i got my beloved truck fixed. You see in not small I'm 6'4'tall and 300lb so a car is very uncomfortable for me and blue is been a real good fit for me. and the car has a trany prob i new this when i bought it. And on top of all of this i thought i have the truck fixed and told my MOM who live 3 hours away i wound be there for Thanksgiving thinking i would have the truck fixed by now. I don't dare drive the car that far don't need a tow bill. |
And the battel go's on
Just for my piece of mind more or less let's say some one IS reading this.
My blue blazer 2 door rear wheel drive with a engine i perched from e-bay for $900.00 that is suppose to have only 37,000 miles on it is showing an error code P0306. Yes i did read as meany post as i was able to find on the error code and even looked under flashing engine light . Yes i have changed all the spark plugs with AC/deco $7.00 each they were all new before change because i just doped a different engine in my blazer and wanted all new stuff to keep things like this from happening . All so got new cap rotor plug wires for the second time. no change. got lucky and still have not gotten around to getting rid of old motor and pulled the fuel spider out (after reading other people post thinks every body for this great body of knowledge!!!). problem changed from P0306 to P0300. But my check engine light went off. Well for a little wile . I was thinking i was in the clear it was Thanksgiving and i had to drive 3 hours to see mom.I got up on the highway just fine was drive for about an hour at 65 mph was going good but was getting past by every body. So i speed up to 85 mph check engine light come on and flashing (knowing this can be vary bad ) i slow down about to pull over and all the bad lights go clear truck sounds good no flashing check engine light no check engine light so i get backup to 65 for about 15 min.All good i take it back to 85 the same thing starts all over.no prob ill just stick to 65 mph right? another hour go's and every thing looks good no lights come on so i pull over for coffee. when i come out and start the blazer the check engine light comes on i shut off the engine and check every thing i can think of and can not see a thing wrong and i do not have a engine reader and no one is open on thanksgiving day that has one so it's not blinking i go on to mom's. ran good 145 miles on a little over 1/4 of a tank. i think may i got 20 mpg? (is this bad for a blazer?) (0h and my blazer has a sever right pull so I'm sure this did not help gas mileage). had dinner came home keeped it at 65 all the way the check engine light is still on.Ill have to get it read before i know more can this be an 02 problem? |
20 mpg is normal for a blazer, and yes it very well could be a 02 sensor, but when you get the codes read it should tell you if it is an O2 sensor or not
