Default 2002 s10 oil cooler line question.........

my son had a new radiator put in a couple days ago, then today it was leaking massive oil,it turns out the lower oil cooler line fell out of the nut, which has the clip on it,that goes in the oil cooler.....so i took the clip off, slid the tube back into the nut/radiator,and put the clip back on,and it seemed to stop leaking, then an hour later i see it dripping, then noticed the tube had about an eighth of an inch play sliding in and out of the radiator.....question,is there some sorta washer/gasket that prevents the oil cooler line from sliding in and out?

There is some sort of plastic retainer clip that is included on the new line that slips over the radiator coupler, but I don't remember too much about it. I'll look tomorrow. Did you install the line with new clips, or did you re-use the old ones? If you re-used the old ones, that's prolly the problem. There is no gasket (which I thought was weird)

There is an o-ring inside the fitting in the radiator.

I bet your clips are spread a bit.

I doubt you have lost the o-ring. If you did, you are probably SOL on a Sunday.

The retainer may be back further on the line or not there at all. Try squishing the retaining clip together a bit to tighten it up. You can then attempt to use a zip tie to retain the clip a bit better if you cannot find the little plastic ring.

just so were talkin about the same area, theres an o ring on the male side,of the nut that turns into the radiator, thats all good, but then you slip the oil cooler tube into that nut,and theres a circular clip thats flat, that slides on the nut,and holds the tube in the radiator....that tube has play in it,and oil leaks out....

after re-reading your suggestion,we are on the same page, i did squish the ring to be tighter, but dang, that hose can walk out at any time, the zip tie is a cool idea, but having not seen it factory,i figured there had to be a better situation,i will look for that plastic retainer...thanks,rod
