Unhappy 4.3 innerchange

Hey guys,
I have a 2001 blazer that the engine timing belt skipped and the engine itself was obviously tired. The rest of the blazer itself is in quite excellent condition so for me its worth dropping a new engine in. All the running gear has been recently serviced or repaired, the tranny has always been treated kindly.
Im told that only a 2001/2002 4.3 is directly inner changeable. I have access to a 4.3 2007 would there just be so much involved to install that its best to stick with the years the wrecking yards say are the only direct inner change?

2001 - 2004 Blazer only. Also, oil pans and sumps are different for 2WD vs 4WD. For 2003-4 in a 2001, you have to use the intake and exhaust manifolds from your 2001. Otherwise identical.

Later 4.3s have a different crank sensor/reluctor that makes them incompatible with a 2001 Blazer. Earlier than 2001 4.3s have a different knock sensor mounting hole in the block. If you can adapt the block to use the 2001 knock sensor, then 1996-2000 engines will also work.
