my transmission in my 96 blazer recently went out and i purchased a 4l60e because that was what i was told was in my blazer.... when i bought it it came with paperwork showing it was recently rebuilt by a professional shop and it came with the transfer case.... well i just pulled my transmission and they look nothing alike... mine says 4l60e on it and the one i bought says nothing and has no tags on it al all.... one big difference in mine did not have a removable inspection plate and this one has the two piece bell housing.... is there two different types of 4l60e trannys
the transmission i bought came out of a 1996 all wheel drive astro van... paperwork says it is still the 4l60e i know the transfer case will not work in my blazer....

It should still work you will just have to find another way to seal up the front of the torque converter area (where your dust shield currently goes). At the back, the two piece transmission also should have 6 bolts holding the transfer case adapter on. I believe that you should be able to use the transfer case adapter from the Astro with your transfer case, but measure things up first.
From '96 to '97, the two piece transmission case was phased in. Nothing else really changed all the way up through end of production in the s-series trucks concerning the 4L60E internals, wiring, & programming.
