4L60e Transmission - Will this tran fit?
Hello all. I am a newbie here and don't know if this question has been asked before. Notwithstanding, I have one of the common issues that many have experienced. The Sun Shield has gone out on my 2000 4x4 and am looking at a replacement. Will a 4L60e from a 2003 Trailblazer work in my truck? The 2003 is the 4.2 liter NOT the 5.3. Let me know. The TB has about 50K miles
Thanks

The engine in you blazer now is the 4.3 and the trailblazer is the 4.2, the transmission should fit, are they both 4X4, if your 2000 is a 4X4 you would have to make sure that the 4l60e you get comes out of a 4X4.... also you would have to make sure that you use the transfer case off the old tranny and put on the new tranny in case the 4X4 systems are not the same, etc auto trac or 3 button, unless the transfer cases are the same and the 4X4 systems are the same, etc both have 3 button or auto trac you would not have to swap then

v-6 vs L5
I was pretty clear on it being a 4x4 to a 4x4, I guess I was wondering if the L5 4.2 has a different bell housing than the one on my V-6 4.3. I also know that on some of the 2 piece models that there are different bell housing that allow for different applications. I didn't know if this was one of them. Anyone have any experience with that? Let me know.

Actually, no where in your post did you state the Trailblazer was 4wd...
My ATSG manual does not show a different bell housing for the I6 engine (not I5) nor does it say which of the bell housings it does show are applicable to the Vortec 4200, so I cannot say for sure if the bell housings would be the same. The bell housing on both transmissions are removable so even if they are different, you should be able to swap your bell housing over to the new transmission and have it bolt up the exact same.
My ATSG manual does mention the use of a 300mm torque converter which will include a longer turbine shaft. Again, this is not specific to the GMT360 platform vehicles, but worth mentioning.
If you had both transmissions side by side, it would be fairly easy to note these differences.

Sorry,I meant that I was clear on the 4x4 vs 2wd. You are right the 4.2 is the 6 not the 5. BTW is there a difference between the transmission for the 4.2 and the 5.3 engine? I don't have in mind just looking to see if that is another alternative. The 03 trans is currently available I am just waiting for a response on the price
Thanks
Thanks

Doing some more digging (google FTW), it would appear that the GM Atlas engines use the same v8 bolt pattern as the rest of GM's. I do not think they use the larger 300mm torque converter so it should bolt right up.

Thank you, You are awesome. I appreciate your help with this. I only hope that I can lock this trans up so I can get that car back on the road.

I'm reviving this thread because it's somewhat relevant to my questions.
Since the 4.2L I6 and the 4.3L V6 share the same auto transmission, then a corollary to this would be that they can also share the same NV3500 manual transmission, correct?
Also, since all TrailBlazers come from the factory with auto transmission, you could still install an NV3500 if you just delete the transmission out of the PCM programming, correct?

Theoretically, yes. The difficulty is going to be in the rest of the implementation (clutch pedal, shifter location, etc). The 4.2L extends under the cowl further than the 4.3L.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the info.
