Default 4l60E Upgrade

I had my tranny replaced in april 08, i put 21K on my truck since then, the tranny was either taken off junkyard or replaced via rebuilt, anyways i want to know how good in terms of reliabilty the 4l60E is. I mean i know a good deal of the tranny but why do people seem to have so many problems with this tranny? Im looking to after i lift my truck to upgrade to a Level 4 4L60E Raptor Tranny From PATC Transmission Center with the Heavy Duty Drive Upgrade. Do You think my stock tranny can hold up to a 5-6in lift and towing once in a while?

I think the problem is mainly a matter of percentages. There are literally millions of members of this transmission family out there and even a small percentage is a big number. Plus, I doubt if most drivers actually perform correct PM on trannys or treat automatics like they should.

A lift will not impact the transmission. Tire size and gearing definitely will. If you do a 5-6" lift and toss on 33" tires without changing the gears (hope you are starting out with 3.73's to begin with), you are loading down the drivetrain quite a bit. Throw towing in and you better have a good transmission cooler to keep the heat down. You may also want to put in a transmission fluid temperature sensor to make sure that you are not getting too hot.

Anything that you can do to increase the strength of the internal components of the transmission as well as decrease the actual shift time will increase the life of the transmission.

well right now its not lifted, im running LT235/75/15 on it. I do not know my stock gearing, possibly 3.23? I Will once i lift change my rears to 4.10 or 4.56 Secondly to counter the heat i will install a deep pan with a temp sensor and install a B&M Fan Cooled Aux Tranny Cooler and Lastly i want to change my shift points and firmness so i would bring the last part to a tune shop or is the hypertech tuner III good? Im thinking of doing a complete PCM tune after the lift. Btw i am going to add a Detroit Locker 7.5 to my rear when i swap my Differntial out

Sounds good. I would definitely recommend a custom tune.
