Default 4WD issues

So, my 4 wheel drive will not engage while in drive. But 4WD Low will engage when in nuetral, but HIGH won't. It was fine in the winter when 4WD high would turn on while in drive. Suggestions?

Good chance it is the transfer case encoder motor. When they start to fail you get intermittent problems shifting into/out of 4wd. Sometimes you candisconnect the battery and when you reconnect it the transfer case will shift where you want it to. New encoder motor is not a hard or super expensive fix.

Check the link in my signature. I would test your 4Lo in wet grass or mud to see if it is really engaging in 4WD or if you are just hearing it try to engage.

You probably have the same problem I did with your vacuum actuator not working. These trucks are know for this problem.

your not supposed to engage your 4 wheel drive while moving, only in park or neutral soit probably messed up your transfer case. Not a cheap fix.

Nah, you can go into 4x4 hi on the move in drive. It`s when you go from Hi to Lo that you need to go into neutral.

I realize it is not the cure-all for all that ails you or your truck, but it sure fixed me and mine up in a hurry. I hope it helps you.

No doubt...you and many others that I read on this site.

Check my page on the posi-locking system. You are the only one I sited because you had a how-to on it.

But I had a hard time following it, so I started over and decided to write my own with more steps and more pictures.
