Default 91 Sierra TBI stalls after mudding?

Hey all, OSS here;

I went out with my friend today on the trails and when we were done, his 91 Sierra 350 TBI wouldn't idle. He's got the stock airfilter housing, without the plumbing to the firewall. Do you think it wouldn't idle becuase the filter was soaked? It smells like it was running rich, and it backfired a few times, stalling out. Sometimes it stalls when he puts it in reverse. Timing issue?
