95 4.3 vortec Runs like new cold, Wont idle and runs like crap hot, no codes
Well, turns out it was the coil pack. I pulled one off a 2.8 and the only difference was the bracket. I grounded it with a heavy-ish wire and it ran. It warmed up and idled great, until I started driving. After 30 miles, the slight miss it had got to be a severe miss. It died and wouldn't crank back up until it sat for 20 miniutes. Got it home and it still would idle, but higher rpm sucks. Then this morning it wouldn't crank. At all. It turned over okay, but not a single hit. Ideas?
Definitely too much of a load for the 2.8 coil. That was a good test to try that I have never even thought to try whenever I develop a miss. But running with that coil will not be possible. It will just burn out. You can check it with a DVM, to be sure, but I am pretty sure you will have to get one for the 4.3L.
