Default 95 to 96 engine conversion

Ok, so I'm sick of not being able to program and upgrade my 95 CPI configuration. How hard would it be to convert to 96+ system? I know I would need the intake and heads as well as all the other sensors, wiring harness, and pcu. What else would I need and how difficult of a job would this be?

Between 9 and 96 was when the OBD I to OBD II switch happened. The significance is that the engine computer took on a much larger responsibility for controlling larger portions of the car/ emissions/performance. There are many things different between these two systems. While your fuel delivery system would be one of them the presence of downstream oxygen sensors would be another major one. As would the gas tank/ emissions system. You would nearly have to rebuild the entire truck in order to make this conversion and to make it right.

Don't forget the transmission, and ABS system that was integrated electronically in '96 as well. Easiest would be to get a doner vehicle, for all the parts. Probably would be better just to get a '96+(98+ would be better) and swap whatever modifications you've done to yours onto it.
