Default 95 Blazer No Oil Pressure

My blazer takes for every to start. When I try to start it, I have to hold the ignition on while the engine try to turn over for 15-20 seconds until finally the oil presure comes up. The entire time I'm trying to start it the gauge will read 0. Eventually the gauge will start climbing, when it does the engine starts. Does anyone know what could be causing the delay in the oil pressure building up enough to start the engine.

Thanks.....

try replacing your oil pressure sending unit or put in a T and hook up an actual oil pressure guage to check if your oil pump is going out

if you dont have enough oil pressure the computer can keep your engine from running to prevent damage

Where is the sending unit located? My gauge is broken on the dash and would like to possibly install an aftermarket one just so I can keep an eye on it.

if your talking about a 95 its back by the distributor
buy a chiltons repair manual. best book for info since motors quit printing manuals years ago. damn them

It is. The oil pressure sending unit is located on the back rail of the engine block between the distributor and the brake booster. It is a "fun" job to replace it! LOL

Here's an image for the 96+ engines:

For the older CPI engines, it is in the same location, but much harder to get at due to the size of the intake plenum. The image below is of the lower intake. The oil pressure sending unit is located just to the left of the #9 in the image below where there is a semi-circular notch in the lower intake.

Thanks for the info. I think more or less the gauge is just messed up on my cluster. The needle is always all the way to the right bottomed out. I think the needle or something is broken on it. More than likely if possible I would replace the stock sending unit with an aftermarket one and connect a different gauge.

It is possible for the needle to have worked loose on the gauge shaft. You could try pulling the cluster and resetting the pin to the zero position with the cluster connected, key on, engine off.
