Default 95 Blazer Transmission Problems

I just bought a 95 blazer 4wd with just over 200k miles. The transmission will not shift out of 2nd gear; the fella i bought it from says that his friend borrowed it and got stuck in the snow, and after rocking it out it has never worked properly.

As far as I can tell, the vehicle stays in first unless you shift manuallt down to 2nd, then will not shift into 3rd or OD. Is this a fixable problem or am I better of picking up a junkyard tranny and swapping it? If so, what years are compatable (yes I know that the junkyard can tell me but I find that people with personal experience are often a better resource)

Edit: its a 95

I will tell you that the stock 4l60E is an alright tranny in the smaller vechicles like the blazer, but the nature of this beast is to fail at several diffrent things. I mean that I would look into getting another tranny from either the junkyard or if you want a 4L60E that will last and have a name behind it call or go to www.finishlinetransmissions.com . I say this because the problem you are having is going to coast you alot of money...looking at a rebuild or if you know someone cheep at least sevearl hundred dollars.....I have had 2 rebuilds in the last year on mine and have given up...so I called FLT and they are setting me up with a 4L60E that will hold it's own and they will back it....it's a nice feeling to finnaly find the answers and the goodstuff. If you have any questions these guys can answer them ....hope this helps...IT HELPED ME!!!!!!!!!

when I got my blazer the tranny was messed up.....it had been rebuilt twice and still no 3rd or 4th....I took it to a vette tranny guy, he took it apart found nothing work and put it back together has work great ever since......only cost me 500 bucks and 9 hours of my time...
