96 blazer 4×4 LS engine cooling fan running all the time

Default 96 blazer 4×4 LS engine cooling fan running all the time

My 96 blazer has engine cooling fan running all the time ......its not overheating or throwing codes ....running slughish ...i think .....put new ac comoressor on recently ......has hot heat and cold air and recently did oil change and coolant flush ...fan spins freely when vehicle is off ......i cant figure it out .......help !

96 Blazer has mechanical cooling fan, not electric cooling fan. If you hear the fan roaring when the engine is cold or cool (engine revved), then the fan clutch is malfunctioning.

The viscous fans always turn with the engine running but with little resistance. If it engages because of heat it "roars", as LesMyers has pointed out. From experience I know that we have to tell "roar" because it is quite distinctive when it really engages, vs. it's kind of "free wheeling".

With the engine stopped it should have a slight drag and not spin freely!
