Unhappy 97 blazer no start after stalling out. SOLVED!

Hi guys, my 97 Blazer up and died on my wife today and i was hoping someone might be able to help my. First thing i checked were the fuses, all good. the engine cranks but wont even stutter. battery load tests fine it does not seem to be sparking. Can anyone help? Maybe there are common problem areas im not aware of as this is my first Chev in over 25 yrs. Its freeze raining today so the less time i spend frozen in the driveway the better. lol. I should add there are no active or pending codes, the fuel pump cycles as it should but no start. Thanks in advance.Si.

Start with a fuel pressure and leakdown test to determine if the fuel system is at fault. Do the test with the key on, engine off. Your initial psi should be between 60 and 65 and no go below 55 for 10 minutes.
Also, are all of the lights coming on? IIRC, the 97's had problems with bad ignition switches.

Thanks for the reply. Everything comes on as it should when the ignition is on, the engine cranks just no start. the ignition does hang up from time to time though. How can i test the ignition switch. I have a workshop manual ordered but i may not see it for a couple days. Tomorrow i will test the fuel pressure and the pink wires for battery voltage. thanks for any help you can give me. Si.

Problem solved! The plastic tube on the coil the plug wire fits into has a hairline crack in it and the spark was jumping to the metal body of the coil. Cleaned it up and coated the whole area in liquid electrical tape and she fired right up. Drove around running errands for a couple hours and all is well so I'll get a new coil tomorrow and fix it the right way. Thanks 50lb_cat, did a fuel system check and easily passed. Appreciate your time on this. Cheers Si.

Glad you got it fixed! Be sure to use ac delco or delphi, these trucks are very picky when it comes to electronics!

Thanks 50lb I'll do that. It's usually a good move to use OEM replacement electronics on the Blazer or so I've been told. Many thanks again.
