98 4.3 swap into 97
Found a running 1998 4.3 to swap into my 1997 2 door 5 spd. Both are vin W but the 1998 donor is an auto 4 door. From my understanding it's a direct swap just use the computer from the 5 spd. Is this correct? Anything else I should know? I've got a lot of new parts on the '97, true duals & hi-flow cats, CAI blah blah blah. Gonna do the clutch too while its out obviously. Am I missing anything?
don't forget to install the pilot bearing in the new crankshaft.
Be safer to use the intake and exhaust manifolds from your 1997 (you should really do lower intake gaskets anyway). Then you should be able to be assured that all your 1997 stuff fits and works as designed without mods.

thanks Les, I've never done an engine swap but I have some very experienced help lined up. I plan on replacing most of the gaskets (as you suggested) and eventually rebuilding the one I'm pulling. Found the '98 for $250 (it's a 4 door with a toasted auto trans). Heard it start/run yesterday, no engine noise, no smoke.. I figure I can get at least $100 out of the rims on it alone...
