Default 98 Blazer LS wrong tranny bracket? HELP!!!

Hi,
My first post though I have enjoyed viewing many in the past.
Just purchased a 98 Blazer LS and found the shift cable end "tape wrapped" in order for it to stay on the tranny lever. I think maybe this tranny is from a older year vehicle that uses a smaller cable clip-on post, and the cable mounting bracket does not seem correct either.
Can I just change the tranny lever and mounting bracket to fix this???
Thanks in advance for any Help!
Luke

Also, the picture shows that I have removed the 2 yards of black tape (really) and have temporarily fastened the cable end to stay on the smaller shift lever post with 2 strong cable ties.

Just bought what is suppose to be the correct cable bracket on eBay.
Still need to find the tranny shift lever-arm with the larger post for my OEM cable end.
