98 GMC jimmy transmission problems need help!!!

I have a 1998 GMC jimmiy it has the 4.3L V6 in it. My transmission doesnt shift hard all the time it only shifts hard if i go above 60 mph. Why would it do that? If im just driving around town going like 30 or 40 its fine. But like i said if i go 60 sometimes even 50 for more then 5 or 10 mins then it shifts real hard in to 1st. I need help!!!

I had this going on for about 2 years,8k miles. I believe its the valve body. My whole transmission went out afterwards. A filter change may help. Did it pop a code? 1870?
