You can just buy the pump, but a lot of the time the rest of it is shot because
of its age. Plus in mine, gm had revised the wiring and connector, which came with the kit. also make sure you replace the screen at least. Rent the fuel pressure gauge, with advance you get your money back as soon as you return
it. Hope this helps!!

i have had the exact problem.... these central port injection unit MUST HAVE 60psi to open the injectors and fire and it MUST happen immediately cuz you have the fuel pressure regulator kickin in as soon as you have vaccuum... they only need 35psi to run... even 59.5psi will not fire the injectors on start up... also AC-DELCO makes a rebuild kit including new updated wiring and hoses etc.... although i would HIGHLY suggest just buying some fuel injection fuel line form a parts store cuz that little plastic line will blow right back off 99% of the time.... pump rebuild kit#'s

then why is it when i just "tap" the key it starts right up, i can do that ANY time. but to hold the key will not fire. sometimes the engine seems like it wont even make a full revolution, and it fires.... before i changed the fuel pressure regulator ( was leaking before )i could "hold" the key like normal and 2 or 3 cranks it would fire every time.

to insanefirewall:
it could just be the pump... i had the same prob it would start one min then crank forever and nothin... i replaced distributor, cam position sensor, crank sensor and cleaned the entire spider injection body and i would get the same results... put in the delco rebuild pump kit and fires every time and i dont have to crank but one second before it does fire up. gmpartsdirect.com make a conversion kit that gets rid of the spider injection and turns it MULTIPORT fuel injection for around $300 and it does not have to have that 60psi to open the injectors on start up

limitededtion
i use throttle body cleaner that is sensor safe... i used b&g brand but any will do just DONT use brake clean cuz brake clean destroys anything that isnt metal, ruins seals and will screw up any electrical parts that reads/sends signals.... the idle air control is basically a plunger with a spring on it but they are VERY sensitive.... also be sure to clean out the hole where the plunger sits and allows air to come through the throttle body

also once you start cranking the pressure regulator kicks in from the vaccuum and brings the psi down to aroun 42 so if you dont have that IMMEDIATE 60psi the injectors wil never open on start up... you can start it with brake clean and it will run til you turn it off or it runs out of gas
