BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER
I have a 20002dr 4.3L. Replaced the converter last year, only 11000 miles since then. Brought it to the shop, they said the converter is bad again. Service tech said that my after market remote start was causing the problem?Checked the invoice for parts replaced, no mention of sensors. He also said the mech didn't list any codes on the order. The SES light never came on in both instances. I love my truck, but I can't take much more of this. Can anyone help me outhere. I need some help bad. Only 57000 miles. Have already been hosed (I feel) for too much cash already. Don't believe I'm getting the real story from these guys. I at least needto know the right questions to ask when I go back. THANX

Exactly what kind of problem are you having that made you take it to the shop? If you tell us the symptoms, maybe somebody can help you out.

RE: BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER
Severe hesitation when I step on the gas. Gas mileage gets worse by the day. At idle, seems like it misses around every 5-6 seconds. With no codes, how can they tell me whats causing the problem? Tech said he had a service bulletinabout aftermarket remote start, but I didn't see one on this site. Has anyone seen this TSB?

RE: BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER
Usually, a bad cat will manifest itself at higher rpm's such as hesitation or no acceleration while at highway speed. I haven't seen one cause a miss at idle. Get underneath and rap on the cat to see if you hear anything rattle inside. That's a pretty sure sign of one gone bad. I can't locate a TSB concerning a remote start causing a cat to burn out.

Not burnt out, cloggod with carbon? I'm guessing the remote is causing the sensors to not operate. Will know more tomorrow when I call the shop. I asked them to disconnect the remote and see if any codes pop up. THANX for help.

RE: BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER
A remote start will NOT affect the catalytic converter. Nor would it prohibit codes from being stored in the PCM.
Hope they didn't charge you for the previous replacement CAT as it was still under the 8/80 warranty.
