Default black coolant

changing the thermostat on my 01, pop off the housing and the coolant is black, im hoping its just the original dexcool finally being changed(158xxx miles). Is it a possibility? and yes I flushed it out with the heat on so it went through the core.

these trucks are notorious for intake leaks. if it looks like oil you may just have oil getting into the coolant, but that should also be present in your overflow bottle and radiator cap

How long has it bin since you last changed the fluid? could be rust or aluminum oxide from the engine. I had a an ishue with oil in my coolant but it was foamy and was more of a black tint. I read a thing on Yahoo answers about a guy who had the same problem with his Jeep.

It's probably oil getting into the radiator. Could be from the transmission line in the radiator itself. That's what I learned from Yahoo answers awhile back anyway.

If your oil looks fine and trans fluid looks fine, change the radiator. That would be my guess, yes guess that is

It has not overheated since, I'm thinking it was just the original dex cool
