Have you tried a close quarter drill for access?

2nd bolt out. long extention did the trick. must have a dull left hand colbalt bit. went in w a right hand hss 1/4" bit and it cut like butter. then used the left hand to back it out. going to be a cold week so may wait to put new starter in. thankfully we have missed the snow this time.

yea!!!!

new starter in!!!!

to anyone else in the broken bolt situation heed the following advice. use some sort of extension or a long drill bit. I worked w both a spade bit extender and a bolt in a spare drill chuck to reach up to the block to drill out the broken bolts. Use a new bit - good quality.

I drilled with the right hand bit and walked out the broken bolts w the left hand bits. somehow the snap on left hand bits are cut(machined at the wrong angle vs the hss bits)

now on to the rear brakes (parking) and an inspection.

thanks to all that posted on this thread and good luck to the future readers.

finally, if you find one bolt broken, deal with it asap.
